My Business Partner Is A Fish... No, Really.

He sits on my desk and and swims around in his tank, staring blankly at me when I'm about to make a progressive step in my IM endeavors... Come to think of it, he stares at me blankly when I'm about to make a huge mistake too. Maybe that's his hungry face, time to get out the pellets.

Back to reality: Ok, so the point of this ridiculous thread is that my little Betta fish, Gilbert, spends his entire day glued to this side of the tank, watching me type away. I like to think of him as my business partner because, like all pets, he doesn't judge me for choosing an alternate path to financial well-being. He's stood (or swam?) by me for collective days upon days as I work to get my article marketing efforts just right, and I like to think he supports me.

Point Is: Do any of you have that faithful desktop friend, or maybe even a dog, cat, bearded dragon, ferret... whatever your pal may be, that keeps you going throughout the day?

I'm not insane, really!

See, that's why I can't do videos...no one but me wants to see the mugs of my 2 & 5 year olds...

I have a golden goober who's presence is warmly comforting while I'm on the sofa working...

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

House full of dogs here. When I get really engrossed in what I'm doing, sometimes I'll "snap out of it" and look around. It never fails that there'll be 3-4 dogs lying in a semi-circle around my feet and under the desk. Cutest damn thing you ever saw when they pile up together for warmth. I keep it pretty chilly in my office... keeps me awake.

But I do think this can be a lonely existence as an IM'er. I both miss and love that I don't have to deal with co-workers and people in general at a "real" job. On the days when I miss other people, it's nice to be able to interact with another living creature at least. And they do have to eat, so they're like kids that way. Only they never grow up and turn into melodramatic teenagers and then needy college students. Thank GOD!

Enjoy the next 15 years there, Kelsall. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

See, I chose my fish over my dog because from time to time the dog sits on my power strip and shuts down the whole operation : /

It's funny you would mention this...I actually have a cat that sits/lays on my desk and sleeps next to where my mouse pad is.

He's forever encroaching on my space, and I'm always in a battle with him to get it back.

I don't think I'd have it any other way.

I have 2 cats, and if I'm working on my Laptop(often on my bed) - they are usually at either side of me. The older cat is usually near me no matter what I'm doing, and when I'm working downstairs on the sofa, she always sits next to me Maybe it sounds crazy but she is always 'there' for myself, my wife and my son. If we're sick, she'll snuggle up near us, if we're depressed she'll sit by us. She just 'knows'

We have a Betta Fish too, well actually it's our 7 year old sons really. He's the laziest fish we have ever known - he actually stays still at the bottom of the tank more than he swims around, well unless it's feeding time of course.

Just an annoying George cat who would give her left paw to sit on my laptop for the rest of her life...

    I should get a fish

During the mornings I have a almost 3 year old who seems to think my lap is his permanat location. During the afternoon, the 4 year old and 5 year old join in.

I also have a 12 year old cat who has deemed the side of my lap to be her spot and will nip at the kids to keep them informed of that fact.

I have a very busy house, that is a constant reminder of why I do what I'm doing.

I have a new business partner named The Green Goblin sitting here staring at me. He has no advice to give me yet either. He just sits there with that devious look. I know he's full of ideas though! But Spider-man foils most of 'em. So he's probably not much use to me.

I have a turtle. He/she (not sure which) is on the other side of the the room in its aquarium. There is always the sound of trickling water from the filter.

I have a cat that thinks she's a dog. Follows me around the house all day (except that, unlike a dog, she walks in front of me, but actually knows where I am going and just gets there first).

She also like to lay on the keyboard of my laptop which makes it really hard for me to type.

I have two dogs who are ALWAYS with me when I'm in the office...aka their wrestling room. They seem to think that the office is the best place to play and fight. Not great business partners, but definitely good entertainment!
