Ethically, Morally speaking, I need your input, please

Let me start this by saying, I understand that making money online isn't as simple and easy as it sounds.

In the truest sense, it takes a lot of time, patience, trial and error and I do not have any unrealistic expectations in the sense that I do not at all think it is possible for anyone to earn heaps of money when starting, in a fly by night sort of way - unless you're doing it all through scamming. I do believe in hard work, perseverance, trial/ error testing, etc.

Now, that I've established that...here's my dilemma, well they're actually 2 of them.

Here's the first.

#1
Weeks ago, I hired a bloke to do customizations for a site that I wanted to build. This idiot took a month to do it and didn't even finish the work. His point is, I asked for too many customizations. --- Well, prior to the purchase, I had already asked the timing and the things I wanted done which was really menial anyway and he advised the turn around would be 7 days at least. So a month is just off, way off.

I did take into consideration that he supposedly "fell ill" so I let that one slide, plus there were holidays and "family gatherings" so I thought to be considerate and not bombard to give pressure.

However, after the excuses kept piling up, I did get quite ticked off and tried my hand at handling this in a very diplomatic manner without the use of profanities and b_tching. The guy only whipped into gear when I contacted the affiliate manager of a network that we both belonged to. Reason why I know his ID is because the site I was customizing was to be primarily used for that network. The AM of the network cautioned him and if I were to complain again, he'd be banned.

Anyway, long story short, he did NOT finish the work. Given that the payment was made via paypal, a month takes my coverage out. Thus explains why I contacted the AM to ask for options, since I had bought the site set up to work primarily in collaboration with that network. I had to get someone else to do the final work on it which involves CSS coding, xhtml work, etc.

And, here, the thing with this is, 3 times I had sent my affiliate codes and ad placement codes to this idiot. Lucky enough, I was careful to TEST before I started driving traffic through promotion. And, guess what ---
The affiliate links were HIS links. - I emailed him and advised that I found out, after that, no response.

I did NOT report this to the AM as yet because I know he will be banned --- What do you think I should do?

On one hand, I do understand people have the need to make money and who knows, this guy may have a family to feed and my reporting him would probably put a dent in his income. Then again, I think NO ONE deserves to be cheated this way and he could very well do it to others.
Opinions, please?

Here is dilemma number #2

Okay, so traffic lessons, coaching, etc. - I have no issues spending for lessons or whatever that will help me learn more lucrative ways to do things in a proper manner. I am fine with that as long as it helps in my development. After all, building a profitable online niche does require a little spend here and there.

Anyway, I signed up for one on one coaching. Prior to my payment, this guy was ALWAYS available on messenger, email, etc. - Go figure.

In addition, here's the interesting part - he offers marketing and websites here and on a web flipping site but seems to be using different aliases.

I only found out after I signed up for the coaching.

Anyway, so yes, after I paid, sent a 3 page coaching ebook - I tried the methods suggested, one was to buy a software that cost me $70+USD. When I was trying to reach the guy after I paid for coaching and the stupid software, guess what? NOT a hair to be found and when he comes online, doesn't even respond to my messages or email.

I did ask about the marketing because of course, one on one support, right? I asked about the methodology and suggestions on different technical set ups that require more spending, before I would proceed.

In addition, the software had bugs in it. His answer: "None of my clients have ever had this problem ever before" --- my answer: "You can have a look at the software forums because it seems like I'm not the only one who has this issue. What are my other options in case this doesn't work?"

NO ANSWER.

Okay, so again, I do know his information, affiliate ID, etc. It's not difficult to touch base with the AM because we talk quite a bit and they do NOT tolerate such kind of actions, where, someone offers coaching/ tutorials/ set ups and then do not deliver. They WILL ban the affiliate for doing this.

So, same question, guys, should I or shouldn't I say something about this?

Note, he has posts on this forum, too, offering the SAME service.

Apologies for such a long thread/post - while I am pissed, I would like to get input on this to further add to my coherence.

It does seem quite easy to just report and blast these guys but then again, you never know who is sitting behind the ID -- they may have family to feed, too.

Thanks in advance for all your constructive criticism.

Well, a lot of people DO ask for a LOT of changes, so I can't take your word for THAT. ALSO, what YOU think is menial may not be.

STILL, he SHOULD have changed the affiliate codes. I would report him to the AM.

To give you a better idea of what I had asked to be changed was, just the COLOR scheme which was to change the header and footer from Dark Gray to Dark Blue.

Second change, is to add an additional TEXT to the footer which was just a disclaimer/copyright information of the website in question.

Third, to properly add the AD codes and tracking embeds which consist of 3 separate codes.

See, i am not technically knowledgeable when it comes to web building so I didn't want to tamper with the codes and that's the reason why I HIRED someone to do it for me.

I was not careless to ask about the work BEFORE making/confirming the acquisition of his services so whether or not that is to be considered a lot of work is beside the point when someone has committed to delivering results within X number of days after confirmation.

Thanks for your input. I'll consider it.

And, if I may add, the colors were NOT changed. All he did was upload the xml template to wordpress on my domain and that is pretty much it.

The content, customizations that I could do myself, I did. I just hired someone to add the additional codes/ correct the layout.

You have a right to complain and a right to refund for any services not provided that were paid for.

If you pay for XXX work - you are entitled to XXX work and entitled to have it done and done correctly within a reasonable margin of the set deadline time. You are a customer and have paid for a service. The provider's life and circumstances are not your problem. This isn't grade school and "the dog ate my homework" is not applicable to paid services.

Secondly -- not changing the affiliate codes? Had the provider been otherwise diligent, he might give you room to be trusting that an error had occurred. What it sounds like though is that you have encountered a lazy, shameless scam artist who was going to get much more from you than you had planned. He wasn't worried about your wallet, or his integrity -- why should you feel one tad concerned if he gets banned? What is he there for other than to steal?

In the second situation - the guy has taken money for a service he obviously doesn't feel like performing. If you can't get in touch by private means to have your paid needs met - then publicize your request for answers. Why keep it a secret that this guy isn't responding to paid customers. Other people might like to know that before they spend money on the creep. Just post your complaints with a remissive that "sorry about this post, but it seems since I registered and paid for your service that this is the only recourse I have left in my attempts to have my issues rectified."

If people want to act like animals - put them in a cage.

      Hi There,

Thank you for your response. It made a lot of sense.

Unfortunately, I can no longer get a refund through paypal because it's been a month. However, I will proceed with having him banned from the network and I'll be sure to write up a review about this one.

I had already done so in another forum.

Thanks a lot for the perspective. I really appreciate your input.

    Hi Laura,

    Thanks for the input.

I did realize that after reading sal's comments. I was thinking more on the lines of the guy might having a family to feed rather than others who might run into the same as I have.

I've already taken care of this matter moments ago and have already sent a full report to the AM, complete with paypal dispute information and full email exchanges on commitments/ job not fulfilled.

    Thank you.
