Does anyone else find the recent GoDaddy commercials annoying?

I can't stand them... >.<

    I don't really like them either but they work...look we are talking about them! But more importantly, people who don't really know about the internet would go to godaddy for hosting solely because of the commercials.

    I met Bob Parsons and he's a smart marketing guy and Godaddy was nothing until that first Superbowl commercial they had. That's the funny thing about marketing. For something like Godaddy, a service the average folk wouldn't know much about, the marketing tactic is more about making your name memorable than having a commercial people really like. If they came on and said hi we are godaddy and we have great hosting, nobody would remember what godaddy was 1 hour later.

    With that said, I know exactly what you mean and although I think the marketing strategy works...i don't necessarily like it either.

    Always found godaddy annoying from all points of view so having annoying ads ... well that's no surprise.

    Still, you mentioning them here proves they achieved their target .

    Its funny seeing as that the SuperBowl was about a month ago, and as per norm, most people I know had some gripe or complaint about how expensive the ads run.

    It serves as a good reminder to how little most people in the Employee bracket understand about business or the power of advertising. Yes, 30 seconds is worth $3 million if it exposes you to more people than an entire yearly ad budget could.

    Not to mention, the Buzz that builds for a coupla weeks in advance about what advertisers will come up with doesn't hurt either. And in GoDaddy's case, controversy can give your Google searches a serious case of elephantiasis.

    It sounds nuts but I'm an avid commercial watcher. There's a lot that can be learned from the style, tonality, references and campaigns of TV ads, especially if you're in the business of marketing products to the masses.

    And yes, the GoDaddy commercials annoy the crap out of me. They need a new direction, and soon!

    Godaddy's commercials arent bad.

    But there's a beer commercial that is just retarded. They play Blur in the background, and the scripting goes something like/

    'They arent serious about anything, except the things they are serious about...like friends..or maybe a dog'


    who the hell wrote this garbage? All their newest commercials are pretty much the same thing. Its like something written by a highschool marketing class for a project or something.

      When the ad, doesn't make sense, you have to go back and look at the market.

      I believe the ad you're referencing is a Michelob Ultra one.Its one of their Ultra Lights and the reason I say that is bc their target market is the young, healthy, gym going, self aware mid 20's early 30's set.

      Unlike Bud commercials that rely on the funny or situational, MU ads are usually geared towards the jet setter personality. They've run other ads featuring attractive men and women, in business attire in skyscrapers, in running gear excercising and then in relaxed intimate party environments.

      Their ads target the stable, employed early 30 somethings who like to have a good time without being over the top. While I'll agree the adverts are bland and cheesy, they are quite in tune in their tonality with their target market: mature, distinct but still one of the crowd.

        Yes i believe that is the ad. But the wording just sounds stupid. "they dont care about anything, except the thigs they care about...like a dog'

        Who the hell got paid bazillions of dollars to come up with that marketing jewel?

          The implication is that if you are a beer-drinkin' kind of man, you don't give a toss about the big earth-shaking issues like global warming and Obama's health plan and war in the middle east.

          You mostly care about what's close to you. Like your friends. And your dog.

          Definitely not your girl or your kids, because you probably don't have either one.

          So the term "family" still means "parents," as far as you're concerned.

          And what's left in the list of "things that are really important" after that?

          Well, your friends and your dog.

          And Michelob actually made this self-involved, immature crap sound noble.

          Which is their job, so whoever came up with that earned his bajillion dollars.

          Keep in mind that the value of advertising is not in whether you agree with it, or whether it is a good thing to advertise, but whether it makes the people who watch it - who may not be at all like you - want whatever it is pushing.

    I think a bunch of people are missing the point. The main point of a commercial is to make the most amount of money as possible. The main point of a new company starting a commercial is to get people to know the name and remember it beyon the 30 second spot. Who cares if godaddy creates the most annoying commercial or "worst" commercial we've ever seen. If it makes them a lot of money, then thats all that counts for them.

    Like I said earlier, one of the focuses of a commercial, especially for a business like GoDaddy that most people wouldnt otherwise hear about ever, is to get noticed and get their name out.

    Think about this...if you are a new business, it would make perfect sense to create the most annoying superbowl comercial possible. Sooo annoying that people went on forums and started complaining about. Why? because people are talking about it, it will stand out for that reason, and thats what new companies need. Maybe this logic doesnt work for a branded company with branded competition like an established beer, but for a new start up like GoDaddy was, it would work brilliant.

    I do agree with you Kenster, having an ad that's controversial or just outright annoying enough to stick is a workable theory for new companies and their limited ad budgets. It has worked for other companies as well...anyone remember those horrible little gremlin things that Quiznos used as their national ad launch campaign back around 2003-2004. Terribly obnoxious background music, but very very attention getting. I believe the concept was born upon Youtube, if I'm not mistaken It worked great for Quiznos and It did work brilliantly for GoDaddy...but that was 5 years ago.

    For me the commercials come across as just a tad immature, given they have been around for a bit now. And while effective, I think they're playing too hard on the controversy that got them famous, which is unfortunately just not fresh news.

    I think as well for me, its the degree of which they play upon the sex angle-- it just feels a little much for a domain company. While admit, we've used GD for hosting certain pages, it certainly wasn't based on the thought of Danica Patrick unzipping her jacket.

      They're called "sponge monkeys." Done by the guy from rathergood.com if I remember correctly.

      They didn't just get your attention, they communicated the offer, too. And it was a good offer: $1 off any sub with any coupon from anywhere. The combination was brilliant.

    hahaha, I was in college during that campaign and I just remember walking through the dorms being able to hear that song everywhere I went.

    If that contract isn't a testament to viral traffic I don't know what is.

    GoDaddy is all over the place.

    He was on The Ace of Cakes (Food Network) last night or night before.

    ...not sure if it was a re-run but Bob just got married and had 2 cakes done - The wedding cake had 10 tiers and the grooms cake was a life size motorcycle made of cake that actually shot smoke out of the exhaust.

    Yeh old Daddy is living large.

    First they just said 'the owner of a huge web hosting company is getting married'. I just had a feeling even though I know GoDaddy as a domain registrar.

    There he was with his little tiny logo on his baseball hat - they never did mention 'GoDaddy'.
