Quick question about info for new WF users...

I wonder if it would be helpful to add just this one little section to the new user signup process:

Administrators frequently move threads to more appropriate sub-forums. They can also delete threads entirely if an administrator feels the thread don't contribute to the intended atmosphere of the forum. This could happen for any number of reasons including inappropriate self-promotion, irrelevance, or a good original post that later attracted diatribes and flame wars.

There is not time to give a personal note when this happens; the thread is simply processed, moved, locked or disappears. Help desk requests about moved or deleted threads are generally not answered.

If you believe the topic is appropriate for the forum, create a new thread; if you aren't sure if the topic meets the rules, ask a moderator (listed at the bottom of each forum). This may be different than what you are used to but it helps the forum maintain a fast-paced exchange of Internet Marketing ideas.
This really is different from many lower-volume forums. (One forum I like, with only 1,000 users, had about a dozen pm's between users and moderators about whether or not a new user was sincerely confused or deliberately breaking the rules. Obviously there's no time for that discussion here.) If the way this works was spelled out more clearly at sign-up time, it might save new users from consternation... and experienced users from yet another argument about the rules.

Just an idea, take it or leave it as you like.

Chris, while it's a nice thought, I don't think it would help. The majority of people don't actually read the terms or rules of the sites they sign up for.

That makes sense, Tina. If the kind of misunderstandings we saw in this morning's locked thread are unavoidable, maybe I should just keep some marshmallows and sticks handy for the next bonfire.
