i need to use VPN rarely to occasionally and just for very short period of time.

    Search "Hotspot Shield" on Google. It's supported by pop-under advertisements, but not many.

    People in China also use a software program called FreeGate to avoid the Chinese government censors, but I don't believe it's a VPN.
