Is Virtual Reality Harder To Manage Than Your Real Life?

Kay brought up about Farmville in another thread and it got me thinking.

With all the virtual reality stuff, Sim City, The Sims, Farmville and whatever
else we have, is it harder to manage those games than it is our own lives?

I've tried playing some of those games and let me tell you...they're tough.

Sometimes I think my own life is easier to manage.

What do you think?

If you could choose between living out the Sims or something similar or
living your real life, which would you choose?

Feel free to answer the poll.

Problem with these virtual reality stuff is that those playing it still must take at least some level of care with their real life.

It seems as my wife's entire family has picked up on Farmville and when I look at their collective Facebook pages at least 75% or more flows around who/what/how/when the did something at Farmville. Many of these are working folks----with quite a few in internet/computer business.

I have enough trouble walking the dogs, mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, as well as other chores without saddling myself with a virtual Albatross!

I never got into the virtual stuff Steve.
I think I'm the only person on facebook who isn't into farmville.

    Sounds pretty creepy to me.

I like both lives - the one where the sky and rain are and the other one with all the beeping and flashing!

Just in general though it is hard to manage my virtual life sometimes. When I have Skype going and 5 different groups chatting (bling, beep, beep bling) - from all over the world 24 hours a day and a few private conversations going on simultaneously.

This is the backdrop for my day and add web conference room with live training going on (and sometimes I am conducting), then add two browsers open - one with helpdesk, email account, forum - the other with new order desk, applications, hosting accounts, member database, autoresponder accounts. Writing articles, doing online banking, etc etc

Yesterday I tried this with both my desk top and lap top (3 browsers) on, both logged in to my web conference room, (one mod, one student) (learning screen casting) - both DT and LT with Skype conversations going on.

You heard of 'arrive without traveling' which is like what it is to live virtually.

How to get away without leaving: Hidden object games online in the middle of it all (when I just can't take it anymore)

LOL - is my life real or simulated? My real life is simulated.

I actually had someone call me and ask me if I was going to accept all the Farmville gifts they had been sending me. I said I ahdn't even paid attention to them.
She got huffy and told me from now on she was going to send them to people that would appreciate them.
    WTF?

Confesses I play farmville but I try to do things so that I only have to get on there about every 48 hours or so cause I really don't have the time consistently to play everyday. Real life always comes first that stuff comes on an as I have the time basis and lately I just haven't had much time :-)

Great line - I can identify with that!

I don't do the virtual games - they seem like time wasters to me. I can spend time watching the birds in trees in the back yard or walking with the dog instead. There is something that bothers me about the increasing number of ways people use to escape reality and live in fantasy worlds. You can't make your reality better if you don't live in it.

I have two friends who lost high paying jobs last year (and their home, camper, boat and cars) due to their addiction to WOW - and other friends now who talk about Farmville constantly as if it's real.

Now if I could live the virtual life I have in my mind - that would be fun.

Like I said - it's too creepy 'virtual worlds' - Farmville etc.

Hidden Object Games are just that - games. They have beautiful graphics and there are some real geniuses doing these games - particularly from Russia.

It is really fun and gratifying to play these games. I guess I never did grow up. There are lots of mind-bending puzzles throughout the games.

Right now I am doing Dire Grove which is about an old haunted hotel on some property in the UK. Some students froze to death there - lovely - so I am going through the hotel, the grounds, store, boathouse and finding video tapes along the way which records the story of how they got stuck there and froze to death - building fires, de-icing locks, finding keys and opening doors. Found 4 frozen students so far.

Very gratifying and you can get 'lost' for an hour in scenes full of junk where you pick out specific objects to go to the next scene. Really beautiful artwork.
