I've got a coworker, good guy. He has 3 kids..techically, they aren't his, they are a previous girlfriend's kids and she ran off, leaving the kids with him. The kids have no other relatives to go to, so he has been caring for them since their mother left when they were very young. He could have easily dumped them at an orphanage or child services, but he didnt want to do that to them.

He had an ex wife that sat home while he worked, got wrapped up in drugs and ended up losing the plot and running off to michigan (where they are from) after draining his bank account, leaving him to take care of the kids by himself and try to get by on this piddly paycheck we make at this place...which is obscenely low. About 3 weeks ago, on his way to work, a guy blows a stoplight and hits this guy on his motorcycle. Puts him in the hospital for a day or so, trashes his only ride to work.

He gets by but just barely scraping. He found out about a week ago that he has diabetes...hereditary for him. He goes to get his medicine friday and our insurance won't cover it, well it does but the medicine still cost $100..something he doesnt have. Our insurance blows in a big way. His vision is so bad he can barely see the screen, and in this market finding another job is pretty rough, not to mention the logistics of interviews with kids...etc..etc.

He told me about it today when we were sitting outside, I could tell something was eating him. It just so happens that yesterday I got a $100 check from google for adsense. Not alot but I'm not hurting like he is.

I gave him the 100 to get his medicine...this 40 year old man thanked me with a handshake..and i could see tears.

Its not like my $100 will save the world or anything, and I'm by no means trying to be some kind of 'savior'..hell there are days im barely tolerable. But it felt good to be able to help out a friend in need with the skills i've picked up here.

thats all.

That's cool, Michael. Do you think he's able to do anything online? I mean
    to make money?

He doesn't have a computer. They live in a little single wide trailer. He's a hardworking guy, loves those kids like they're his own, doesnt drink, does nothing but work and go home to the kids. Everyone needs a hand now and then.

Why not set up a paypal fund thing for him, people can donate to it. I think a lot of warriors wouldn't mind donating something to this guy, after the description you gave, and you can set that up for him to go to his bank account.

Although he might refuse it...it could at least help him out...especially since he's got kids and all kinds of bills piling up. (oh, and the thanks button is literally not showing up on my end)

I really doubt he would accept it. He's a very proud guy. Very 'hard' if you ever meet him, kind of a rough backwoods kind of dude. He made a big deal about the money, said he didnt want to owe anyone. So I thought about it for a minute and told him he can work it off. I gave him a stack of business cards for my electronic cig business and told him to pass them out and that would make us even. He was agreeable to that...makes it so its not charity in his eyes.

So we both get something..he gets his medicine..i get business cards put out and get a little good karma on my side. So it works out for us both.

There are ALWAYS ways around these kinds of people, and these kinds of issues. If he is all about his pride, boost his damn ego then, and find a way for people to be able to pay him, in return for services he can provide.

Then everyone's happy, guy's getting paid, ego is still maintained, and other warriors feel as if they helped the guy too.

    Hey Michael,

That was a great gesture on your part to help another human being. This guy sounds like he could use a break in life. Taking care and loving kids that are not yours is a very incredible thing to do. I know some parents who don't give a damn about their own kids. Nicely done Michael.

Is his bad eyesight related to diabetes? That is another possible symptom.

I hope he wins the case against the driver that hit him. And I actually LIKE hearing about help given to people that are trying to pull their own weight, especially if they suffer such hardships.

People here, that know me, can tell you I often don't say such things. Too many people are SCAMMERS.

Steve is right, there are a lot of scammers. Part of the reason I did my blog was to put a human touch to my situation and let others no it's real and not not a scam.

    Hey Micheal

You did great by helping someone out.

Thanks for showing us that there are still people out there who care about others. There are alot of negative out there, so it's always good to read something positive.

    Michael,

I once dated (and almost married) a guy just like him.

Had a kid by a woman he hardly knew. A few years later she had a kid from another man. She dropped that new kid on his door step and never returned.

He was (and still is a VERY HARD WORKING MAN), but due to circumstances beyond his control ended up filing for bankruptcy.

All the while raising HER 2 kids!

It kills me to see good (NO, GREAT) hard working men get screwed over, especially by a woman.

It is NOT FAIR! Life is not fair either!

With that said, I would like to donate $100.00 to your friend (to help pay for a babysitter while he goes on interviews, or his medication, etc.)

Therefore, please provide me with yours or his PayPal account so that I can do so!

Thanks for so much for sharing this post. It warmed my heart, but also shon a light to your friend's situation!

    JMB

P.S. Kind of funny that I would even consider marrying a guy with a kid and no money, considering ME dating many men with all the money in the world plus no kids! Lesson learned! A family with kids (with or without money) is more important than ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD!

  • Michael,

As promised, I have donated $100.00 to your PayPal account to give to your friend!

Just a little Easter gift from me to him and his kids.

    Happy Easter!

Oh my!! What a crazy mother. What kind of woman would do that to her kids. I guess bad mothers are out there. Your friend is amazing for taking care of those kids. If he loves the kids he should adopt them. the kids should stay together.
