How many hours of sleep do you need each night?

    • I need only about 4-6 hours of sleep except when I have sex. Then I can sleep for up to 9 hours. Men release norepinephine, serotonin, oxytocin, vasopressin, nitric oxide (NO), and the hormone prolactin during sex. Prolactin is what makes you sleepy. I'm not sure what the other hormones do, but I'm sure they are important too. My wife releases other hormones that affect her sleep patterns, but I am the main cause of her sleep deprivation.

  • 6 hours sleep a day is what I get, usually less. I need more. After several days, I tend to crash, sleep and the alarm clock will not be able to wake me. Before I crash, there are warning signs, mainly headaches from sleep deprivation. This one builds up and after a day or two of this sleep becomes the only alternative. I try not to drink any headache medicine as it is not good to mix with my hypertension medicine.

    Besides that, if I can get a two hour nap anytime between lunch and dinner, I'm okay.

    But I guess, a long uninterrupted sleep is what's really needed if you want your juices flowing. Short sleep is not healthy. Specially since it deprives the body of REM sleep. Or is it the other way around, where the lack of REM-type sleep is not healthy and makes for a lousy day.

    Yup, you guessed it, one of those days.

  • Normally around 10 - 12 hours of sleep
    But if sch day, then... around 6 to 8
    SOmetime around 4-6

    • Somewhere between 4-6 is my magic number. I would love to get, but I have a 2 yr old toddler and, well, that juat ain't gunna happen.

      If I get less than 4 hrs, I'm screwed for the day - too tired.

    I bought an e-book explaining how to sleep less and now I sleep around 3 1/2 hours

  • if you are a true hustler, i say only about 3-4 hours of sleep max... how can you sleep when theres so much fun to have?

    • Usually I sleep about 6 hours, but now I can't really sleep well so about 4 hours. Feel tired, if I can sleep for 6 hours, than I feel good.

  • I get a consistent 7hrs myself. I work weird hours..11am til like 3am, with breaks of course. It took about a year for me to find the best hours for me to work, and get past the fact it is ok to actually take an hour nap once in a while!
    I've been self employed for 8yrs and whether it is 4hrs or 8hrs, I work with what is needed for me to function the best I can.

    • I get 7 to 8 and I think that's pretty reasonable.

      I keep a pretty good schedule by trying to wake up at the same time each morning.
  • Lately I wasn't able to sleep more than 7 to 8 hours a night. I guess that's not that bad and some might think it's absolutely ok. But in my opinion I have to sleep 8 hours a day (exactly 8 hours) to get a good night sleep and to be as productive as possible.
  • How about, what are your favorite sleep hours? Weekdays I sleep 12:30 - 7:30, on Weekends 2:00 -10:00.
  • Weekday needs at least 6 hours however weekend can sleep around 12 hours.....Better sleep at 11pm with a good dream....

    • With the work load I usually saddle myself with I usually get about 1 hour less sleep per night than I need and 2 hours less than I want!

  • It depends of my state of mind. Sometimes I can sleep 4 hours and it's enough but there are periods when I need at least 12 hours.

    • I need at least 8 hours of sleep... I'm actually getting around 7 and 8 hours during the week... Perfect time would be 9 or 10 hours and that's what i get during week-ends ! I really need to have a long night in order to be effective !

    Too bad they don't make a sleep aid that does not make you still feel tired for a half day after taking it.
