The DOW closed today at 11,005, hitting above 11,000 for the first time in 18 months. This is nearly three months earlier (July 4, 2010) than I predicted on Oct 18, 2009, and now I will be collecting on some bets.

Who else made some big money from this recession?

the stock market is a joke on the average joe who always has the information well after the 70% of major companies who do business on the exchange - you may gain in the short term but in this economic climate in which the financial players are allowed to do ridiculous things, you're asking for trouble.

Ah, but Indy, we had a deal ... a gentleman's bet:
I will agree to post a picture of myself wearing a sign, "Hell Indiana was right" on July 5, 2010 if the DOW does not reach 11,000 by July 4, 2010. And you likewise agree to post a picture of yourself in full sorcerer regalia wearing a sign, "Oh My God, Paul Uhl was right" if the DOW does reach 11,000 on or before July 4, 2010.
      Which you agreed:
... we do have a deal; or as you would have said in medieval heraldry and chivalry, a gentlemen's agreement in the noble court among fellow warriors."

Bien fait mon ami...O! most noble warriors mark thou this...For I speak now in a tounge that resides in thine DNA...Of which I am acredited by my noble and worthwhile challenger...

Mark thee warriors that I accept as and will honour my undertaking as pronouced above...
It is not I that is the Destroyer, but merely the humble winner of this bet and of the debate. Now it is your solemn duty to show thyself in full sorcerer regalia before the noble court among fellow warriors with this sign, "Oh My God, Paul Uhl was right".

But HAS DOW reached 11,000? I mean DOW closed at 30.60 today! AND, the DOW TA, a popular average, closed at 4,536.66 today!

GEE, if you meant something ELSE, maybe you should have been more precise!

BTW According to ALL HISTORY, and the originators of the index, the DJIA no longer exists! They destroyed it several years ago to get at least two companies that didn't qualify, since they were on the wrong exchanges and in the wrong industries, on the list. So it could be argued that THAT is LESS than 11,000!

The components of the DOW has not changed since the bet was placed, on Oct 18, 2009. On June 8, 2009, General Motors and Citigroup were replaced by The Travelers Companies and Cisco Systems. This is the problem with so many people here, the facts never seem to matter. You throw out things that are untrue. The DOW closed up again today, at 11,019.42. It has not been at 30.60 since 1896.

Call me an optimist, but IMO the worst has already passed. The stock market is 6-12 months ahead the "real" economy, and right now we're in a healthy bull market.

I still see good investments for the medium and long term, so I'll leave most of the money on the table.
