anybody getting out of the dollar

It was barely reported in the UK media, but the recent coordinated
flooding of the market with US$, by central banks including the BOE,
as far as a statement (unguarded?) on TV by Gordon Brown was that
UK offerings would seek £sterling based repayment.

ON the premise that all countries, including the US, clean up their
banking and financial sectors and place them under prudent regulation,
and then all cooperate under a new prudent and relevant global
regulation system .... then it is possible to make some judgements
as to relative currency values and shares of the global economy.

Globally, the US$ will decline from the "Breton Woods" default currency
to become just one of several default currencies for other nations as
is increasingly current practice. Nobody will put all their eggs in one
basket anymore ..... and may become more nationalistic or based
in their economic trading partners/blocs.

The US$ if well-regulated and trusted could even gain in value
depending on changes in GDP, national debt and budget deficits.
That also applies to other countries and their currencies.

Whatever the politicians may say in Western countries, those of
us who live in their real economies are facing quite a downturn
at least for the next couple of years as the domino effect ripples
through just about everything we have been used to in recent years.

The winners will be countries that adapt to massively changed
conditions the most decisively and quickly. Those trying vainly to
cling to philosophies and practices which actually caused this
current disaster will inevitably loose out imho.

Yep, I can hear the wailing of get rich quick investors and see
the crocodile tears of Hedgefunds and short sellers. I care not!
