7 Ways The World Could End...

This is a documentary from The History Channel called "Last Days on Earth". It describes 7 different scenarios that could lead to the end of human civilization, ranging from asteroid strike, to supervolcanoes to nuclear war to a takeover of intelligent machines (Thankfully, "Mayan Calendar Prediction" wasn't one of them). Some of these scenarios are hypothetical while others have happened before in human history and are expected to happen again. Personally, as a disaster buff I find this kind of stuff fascinating. Makes you realize how fragile civilization really is. One little cosmic hiccup and everything we've worked for over the past few hundred thousand years turns to dust.

Well, on that cheery note

Happy Weekend, everyone!

Mother Nature has been very friendly to us recently. And one day, something catastrophic will happen.

I just heard another theory...And it includes 12/21/12.

A scientist claims that on 12/21/12 we will be in position to receive gamma rays from the center of the galaxy. He claims the last time this happened was about 13,000 years ago and was the cause of the major extinction of that time, when all the mammoths and sabre tooth tigers all went extinct.

Although he did say that the last occurrence some 13,000 years ago happened during the summer solstice, not the winter solstice which is what 12/21/12 will be.

Just something to think and talk about...

That depends on which hemisphere you are looking at it from. South of the equator it is in the summer period.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

Yeah, Gamma Ray Burst is #7 on the list, though I hadn't heard anyone make any predictions about when specifically it could pose a danger (they're not sure when/if on has ever struck the planet before). The "good" news is, from my understanding, a planet has to be in the direct path of one of the two streams from a gamma ray burst in order for it to be affected by it.

I just realized something. WHY couldn't the end of the planet happen BEFORE my birthday!?!?!? I mean I have to get a new license and it won't even last a YEAR!?!?!? COMEON! The DMV won't even be around to give me a prorated refund. 8-( Where I live now, drivers licenses should be good for over 6 years, and mine expires on 2012. 8-( Rotten luck, huh?

But if this last happened 13000 years ago, a lot of humanity may survive EVEN if there IS a disaster. I mean a LOT of things indicate people similar to those today existed back then. Estimates I had heard were longer ago, and humanity was not known to be in its current state back then. STILL, there IS reason to believe that there could be more earthquakes, storms, volcanic action, etc... Who knows, maybe that is one reason so many bad things happened lately. Just my luck, even edgar cayce said where I moved to is probably going to be OK. 8-( He made a "prediction" that the US coastline would change dramatically at some point.

I don't think this world is gonna end. If it was to end, it would have ended much before. Moreover the stories of ending this world are nothing but rumors.

I don't think the world will actually end. I reckon it will end up looking like something out of Terminator 3 or Mad Max!
