Does anyone here use a neti pot?

I know the concept may sound a little strange at first...Basically, you flush out your nasal passages (in both directions) with saline water.

But it's one of the natural remedies that's been used for centuries that's also backed up by modern science.

I've been using one for the past couple of years and think it's great. If you have any sinus/allergy problems, I suggest you give a neti pot a try.

A neti pot is a small pot used for irrigating the nasal passages.[1] Typically it has a spout attached near the bottom, sometimes with a handle on the opposite side.

I have one but its still unopened in the box. I dunno I just thought taking a mini tea pot and holding ur head sideways and pouring it up your nose just seemed weird. And then doesn't it come back down and get you all wet? Not for sure how you use it. :p Ah well if it works will have to give it a try.

      Hey Val..

The key is the angle you tip your head. The goal is to pour it in one nostril, and it will come out the other nostril. Yep, it's all connected.

So you need to learn to tip your head to the side slightly, the tilt your head forwardm both at just the right angle, and hopefully over a sink.

      Repeat with the other nostril.

It is something you have to get used to, but it only takes a few times to get it down and it's a lot better than using all those drugs.

        I bookmarked that link Kurt.
My sinuses haven't bothered me in years and my allergy's aren't bad enough to worry about. But you never know when that will change.

I've been using the "NeilMed Sinus Rinse" since being told to do so by my surgeon following a hideous sinus infection last year. I had an emergency operation as a scan showed a "mass" that was possibly a tumour. The relief when it was found to be a huge infection was unbelievable.

Following the operation I was told that flushing the sinus passages was essential to aid recovery; it realy helped.

There are some stupid videos on YouTube about it but some people over-react. It's not unpleasant, you don't feel you're drowning or anything like that. That, coming from someone who has been terrified of water since a near death by drowning incident as a child, says a lot!

You merely squirt a mild saline solution up one nostril so it flows through the sinus passages and out the other side. You then repeat the other way round. The stuff that washes out sometimes is a clear indication of how valuable the process is.

I still use it and would never be without it.

You are quite right about the benefits Kurt.

Well, I've tried it and find it pretty uncomfortable. It feels just like getting a nose full of water when swimming (which is really what's happening). I know people who use it for a half hour at a time. How long do you recommend?

Hey great post Kurt. I'm going to definitely give this one a try. Just doing a search on youtube, I found a video from one of my favorite tech bloggers. He gave it a try last year but I've never seen this video before today...
