Hey warriors,

Wondering if their are any UFC fans here?

Personally I'm a big fan and I wish they would get it legalized here in Ontario since its one of the biggest hubs of MMA.

I'm really looking forward to the PPV coming up this Saturday where Lyoto Machida is going to be fighting Mauricio Rua for the second time. Personally I think Rua got robbed the first time and I'm hoping he wins this time.

Do you have any PPV predictions or comments about UFC in general?

I would love to hear what you think

-Karl

I am a huge fan. Rua should do well and he should win for the second time. Hopefully this time he will actually be rewarded with taking the belt home with him unlike last time.

We've had a few MMA threads here...Not a ton of interest, but a few.

    Although not UFC...

Isn't Fedor getting ready to fight on US TV?

And, I'm surprised that Jake Shields beat Dan Henderson. Shields is the real deal.

      Hey Kurt,

Yea I was so surprised with Jake Shields winning as well! Henderson was killing him in the first round and I thought he was gonna TKO him but then Shields did the boring lay and pray for the win.

Dana White must of had a good laugh about that since he released Henderson from his contract.

I used to think that way too - and I still believe he is #1. But these days the UFC HW division is boiling with talented new comers. It used to be weak but not it's THE place. Besides Fedor and his bro, Barnett, Overeem and maybe Arlovski, all the best are in the UFC right now.

I wish his managers would let Fedor FIGHT and stop all their hijacking of his prime years!

Well that was an interesting night of fights. Kimbo and Daley have been axed, and the Machida-era is over as fast as it began. Amazing how quickly things move in the 205lb division. Also wondering why Dana White is keeping the UFC's reality show alive. It's served its purpose when establishing the brand but now it needs to be eliminated. It's basically just keeping champions out of action for the better part of the year. Not really looking forward to another GSP/Koscheck fight.

I like the ultimate fighter. It is good to see the tempers fray and some new up and comers fighting. I think Lidel seems like a great coach the way he doesn't try and change peoples fighting technique too much, just make them do what they are doing better.

I was so looking forward to see rampage jackson fight rashad evans. I can't belive that fight never happened. It would have been biggest grudge match ever.

Best bit about ultimate fighter is the qualification to get into the house. Back to back fights are good.

For me, this is the weakness of MMA. You have guys like Randy Couture with a record of something like 17-11(?) and he's in the Hall of Fame. Lidell has lost plenty of fights.

This isn't a knock oon either guy, it's just that MMA seems to be more about matchups than over-all talent. Other than Fedor and Silva, fighters just don't go on winning streaks. You don't see guys with records of 23-1 like you do in boxing.

In MMA there's just so many ways to win (and lose) that it's almost impossible for a fighter to have a long winning streak, making fights more of a crap shoot.

For example, in boxing typcially the "champ" will beat the 10th rated fighter 90% of the time. Whereas in MMA, the "champ" seems like will win only about 70% of the time.

These stats aren't exact or mean anything other than me trying to give an example.

I'm glad Kimbo got axed, he just proved that he is an over hyped fighter with lack luster skills. I gotta say I did like him and wanted him to succeed but the way he lost to Meathead of all people was terrible.

Like you mentioned not looking forward to another GSP/Koschek fights they would do GSP and Silva already because that is what the fans want to see.

Also another thing, about the Jake Shields fight were any of you surprised how easy he took Dan down? I mean the guys was an olympic calibre wrestler who shoud have been the naturally stronger guy. I think there must have been a problem with the weight cut or something, he looked weak.

Take nothing away from jake though he is good at what he does, but he will get owned by George St pierre or Anderson Silva

Also, I'm looking forward to Lesnar/Carwin. Should be fun! Do you guys buy every single UFC ppv? Personally I think some of the quality of the more recent UFC ppvs haven't been up to par. Or at least, not worthy of their $50 price tag.
Anyway, hoping Rua puts an end to the "Machida-era" this Saturday. Thought Rua was cheated out of a victory to be honest.

Never cared much for Jake Shields. Also don't care much for his training camp. It was funny seeing Miller trying to tackle Shields' entire camp, singlehandedly, including the Diaz boys. It was the most entertaining part out of a rather boring 2 hour StrikeForce broadcast.
I also found it odd how easily Mousasi was repeatedly taken down over 3 rounds.

        Hey Hanz,

I wasn't too pleased with Anderson's bragging fight style and the fact he didn't finish off Maia was odd considering he was a much better fighter than him.

Also Carwin vs Lesner is gonna be an absolute brawl, I can't wait to see that. I hope Carwin puts that punk Lesnar in place!

Did anyone see the hughes vs gracie fight?

Man!! That was brutal, the guy so wanted to stay down or get knocked out. Matt hughes could have knocked him out plent of time near the end when gracie went down without covering up but he just kept letting him get back to his feet then destroying his leg again so he fell back down. He did some serious damage.

And what is up with silva? 2 round jumping round like an invincible monkey then doesn't throw a single punch for the rest of the fight.

I saw the Hughes, Gracie fight and found it to be pretty weak. I knew they were friends before the fight but they acted way too friendly in the match. Example Gracie extending his hand to hughes to help him up? This is the octagon not a sparring session. Can't deny Hughes' kicking ability though. Overall I was pretty disapointed with that PPV.

Also Silva acted like a clown during his fight, for a world class champion who is a big face in the UFC I lost a lot of respect for him based on his performance.

Matt certainly didn't want to mount and pummel gracie, but I bet gracie will be feeling that fight in his leg for a long time. I was big thai boxing fan before i got into MMA and there are a lot of knockouts from leg kicks in that. Surprised grace managed to get up after the punishment.

Koscheck was very impressive imo. He is just like Brock Lesnar, someone most people hate but he is very talanted. I think he will give GSP a good match but of course GSP will win in the end. Shogun was also impressive and i would love to see Shogun meet Anderson Silva next. I think he would be the one who could really hand it to Silva.

I just noticed Dana White says Paul Daily is off the UFC roster. Lots of people calling him a hippocrite due to other fighters having done the same thing and got away with it, although daily was stupid to do it. He should have kept the anger as motivation to go and learn how to fight a wresteler that wants to lie ontop of you.

Paul got what he deserved I don't think it would come as any surprise that he would get cut after doing something like that. Like you mentioned he should of kept his anger as motivation instead of erupting like he did.

I agree that the overall card had some great fights compared to a few in recent past.

I didn't think Chuck would have been fighting again, by I was hoping for one last hoorah. He is still a legend though. I met him a few times here in Vegas, years ago before he was as big and famous. Nice guy.

Carwin ftw, he has an excellent wrestling background like Lesnar (disregarding fake wrestling years lol), but he packs more power imo, I mean even Randy whose not a very strong puncher got Lesnar stunned and put up a great fight for such a large size difference. And Carwin has the size, wears 5x size gloves (bigger than Lesnars) and just has explosive power, look what he did to Mir (who was in the best shape I've ever seen him in) when he had him against the cage.

It's interesting. I think that Brock Lesnar, no fool, knowing he has a disadvantage in stand-up against Carwin, will take the fight to the ground and win by superior wrestling, speed, and ground & pound in round 2.

I'm a conflicted UFC fan who thinks it should probably be illegal. Still, it's more ethical than say bullfighting where the animal has no say in the matter. Statistically it is considerably less dangerous than cheerleading (high fatal accident rate).

I agree. Carwin should have slowed himself down and been more sensible with his shots in that 1st round. I also wonder if Carwin's cardio is not as good as it should be due to the fact that he doesn't do mma fulltime? He still works as an engineer.

Credit to Brock though! To come back the way he did shows the heart of a real champion.

Understandably Carwin didn't expect Lesnar to withstand it. Most mortal MMA fighters would not have survived it. Between rounds, Carwin was shaking his head and Lesnar had already won the psychological war.

They would have def called that fight in the first round if it wasnt the main event and wasnt Brock. First of all, that guys a fricken train. Imagine getting ripped and elbow dropped in the face pretty much all round and then being able to get up and continue fighting.
