Why is your focus on women? The article makes it clear that there are both genders involved, not just women.

Although, how a guy can prove he's a virgin, I don't know. You'd think they'd get a bunch of volunteers for that since the person gets at least $20,000 out of the deal.

        Hi Tina,

I put the emphasis on women, not from a judgmental perspective on female sexuality, but out of shock and surprise, considering the majority of society, men AND women, tend not to look upon women who openly express and explore their sexuality, especially for money, with any ounce of respect, yet men receive a high five.

Please do not mistake me for one of these people who think women are little delicate flowers who hate sex, especially before marriage, and would never hurt a fly, yet those that do enjoy their sexuality and have been with more than 1 sexual partner are whores.

Although it may have come across differently in the heading and original post.

I am keen to hear other peoples take on the subject.

Isn't that a little anachronistic and unfair?

A woman who enjoys sex is a fantastic thing to have in this world, and the more of them we've got, the better off we are as a species.

And a person who doesn't care what you think is every bit as fantastic, and makes the world an even better place.

So shouldn't we cheer and applaud when we start seeing more of that?

I agree, but unfortunately, the majority of society generally frowns upon openly promiscuous, sexually liberated women.

And a person who doesn't care what you think is every bit as fantastic, and makes the world an even better place.
            Again I agree.

Indeed we should, I just dont see that happening any time soon, in large part thanks to a mixture of radical end of feminism whom it seems is intent on destroying anyone or anything which depicts female sexuality, regardless of the medium or manner, insecure men who think that if they marry their girlfriend, that it will protect her 'purity' and stop her from leaving him or cheating, and insecure women who are just jealous of others and project those insecurities on other women *cough* radical feminists *cough*

I think it is a shame that even though we are in 2010, western society, even though it has become more accepting of human sexuality in general, particularly in advertising, fashion and the media, there still exists this primitive prejudice against those who explore their sexuality, which is largely directed at women.

Which is why I am both shocked and surprised that these women would go ahead with this on film considering the social consequences of doing so.

              Tina with all due respect...

Who cares that he focused on women? This whole "crying sexist" BS needs to stop, its ruining society....how politically correct everyone needs to be these days...

Its obviously more shocking for women to do such a thing like this...

No need to make a mountain out of a mole hill....just relax
Did I accidentally piss in your wheaties, dude? I'm perfectly relaxed and not "crying sexist" - just asked a question, that's all. I just don't think that it is any more shocking for a woman to be doing this than a man so I guess it's not as "obvious" to me...lol.

I think it's pretty far out there that anyone would do this, at least as publicly as this. I also think that the participants will regret it someday when their kids ask about it.

I personally couldn't care less if they sell their first time to the highest bidder as it really should be an individual's right to do what they want with their body.

I do have to wonder how they can consider it not to be prostitution, though, but that's clearly why they're doing it in Nevada where prostitution isn't illegal. Whether the participants think it is or not, the producers definitely covered their behinds.

I don't think a woman could prove it either: The popular notion of proving virginity by examination of the hymen has long been dismissed as a myth by the medical community (although it remains widespread among the general public). And, even if it wasn't (a myth), I think the widespread use of feminine hygiene products means the condition of the hymen couldn't be used as conclusive proof anyway. (Not that I've thought much about this kind of thing!!! )

I think it is sad that people are resorting to this means of making money. This has little to do with "enjoying" - if they are virgins, how the heck would they have a clue? This has to do with financial desperation - or financial deprivation.

There are also ads on Craigslist since the economic crisis started for women to exchange free sex for room and board, in other words, slavery. Put out or get out. That situation wasn't prevalent until many women started to need a roof over their heads and if you ask me the people "offering" such a situation should be arrested for attempted slavery. Putting someone in the situation of having to do your sexual bidding or live in the street has nothing to do with sexual temperament - it is financial desperation and an only recourse to avoid starvation.

How is it slavery if you are getting what you want, too? Some women would see that as a good deal.

It's not that far removed from being a trophy wife, is it?....or from friends with benefits.

I think people should do what they are comfortable with. But I have always thought virginity was an over rated virtue anyway.

Yeah, okay - if you consider a last ditch effort for someone to keep off the street and fed "getting what they want". Probably the reason we only started seeing these types of ads when the economy started tanking.

I was hoping to say that in my first post. I was trying to imply that she was selling her "virginity only" 25 times", but didn't do too well...

And you have to wonder about selling virginity as a business model, it has to really cut down on repeat business, but at least "no experience necessary".

Well it is up to the individual woman (or man) as to what they choose to do with their own body.

However I think it is very sad that anyone should choose to market themselves and their virginity in this way.
