What was your very first car?

My was a 67 Olds Cutlass with a 69 Olds 442 engine. Problem was, I only had it for a week. A friend sold it to me and before I could pay him, he borrowed the car and wrapped it around a telephone pole. Since I hadn't paid him yet and he wrecked it, things "evened" out. (He totalled the car but wasn't hurt)

My next car was the biggest lemon ever...a 71 Comet, Mercury's version of the Ford Maverick, a small step "up" from the Pinto.

I still hate that car. I went from cool to uncool very quickly...

What was your very first car?

  • This looks a lot like mine...Except mine was a deep royal blue with the same balck vinyl roof...It was the only really cool car I ever owned, even if only for a week.

  • 68 Chevy Impala.

It was time for me to learn to drive so I asked one of my Uncles to find me a car for $50 and he did.

It was dingy yellow with a ripped black vinyl top.

I had to get a new muffler.

Drove it off the side of a mountain a couple years later. The car didn't make it through that experience... but thanks to its sturdy construction, I did.

  • Mine was a 64' Plymouth Valiant. 225 Slant six was a great motor but the tranny went out 2 weeks after I bought it.

  • A black 1986 Camaro Iroc-Z with TTops.

    My first and current car.
  • LOL... My first car was a 1962 Chevy II Nova Super Sport and it sported a
    302, manual trans with 4, 2 barrow duce's and a master cut-off control valve.

I could run it on 4, 6 or 8 cylinders.

My father won it in a bet the day I turned 16yrs old. The guy bet him title for
title at Ohio Valley Speed Way and lost the race.

I had the car a week and then took a trip to Florida with a few friends. When
I returned from the trip, my father had removed the 302 motor and replaced
it with a 196 automatic. When I pulled out on the highway I had to wait for
bike riders to go by before I could pull out in fear they might hit me!

I then upgraded to a 1961 Ford Falcon which I then sold for $100 only to
learn that if I had just turned the distributer a 1/2 inch would burn rubber
in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. The guy I sold it to adjusted it and then did
it after he left my driveway. (He's still on my Sh!t list)

    My third car...oh, never mind.

    Have a Great Day!

  • My first car I purchased with my own money was a 1974 dodge dart.

The worst car I ever owned was a POS Hyundai - actually it was my wife's. When we got married she got my brand new Chevy S10 and I got her Hyundai.

6 months later it started making some odd noises and shimmy while I drove. I was on my way to the shop when I pressed the brakes, heard a VERY loud grinding noise, and the brakes failed. Then I heard a sound like a snap. A few seconds later I saw a car tire pass me on the passenger side - my first thought was WFT - where did that come from? A second later I found out when the back of my car slammed into the pavement because the wheel had sheared off the bearings and broke lose.

Remember - Friends don't let Friends drive Hyundais!

  • my mother had a nearly cherry 53 Buick when I started to drive at like 15-1/2.

my father had a 57 pink and black leather cadillac convertible (with wolf whistle) el dorado

for the longest time i told people i had driven a cadillac at 5 years old -

i was much older when I realized I was sitting on daddy's lap steering and that he was in control of the gas and brakes.

so i had to relearn driving when i had this epiphany. lol.

my teenage fiance' had a 57 baby blue T-Bird hard top convertible and a model A or T Ford.

the first car i bought was probably an oldsmobile - used
but i dreamed of Morgans and MGs.

*Edit just remembered I bought a Toyota Celica that was a complete gutless lemon and I only had it a short time. It was pretty silver though...

i also had to buy a chevrolet sprint - my uncle bought it for me and i had to assume payments. it was an ugly little econobox but got 45 mpg (3 cylinder Suzuki engine)
    maintenance free.

*Edit = Chevy Sprint was the prototype for the geo metro

then my mother gave me a nearly cherry oldsmobile royal broughm something or other

Then I bought a Pontiac Bonneville SSEI - used silver - with super charger
Then I bought another one -new - I have one of the last 2 years of the SSEI

I only owe $7000 more dollars on it and it might be my last car. I love it and if that is the way it is, that's all good and all leather, 2 satellites.

In a better world I sometimes wish I had one of those little Audi or Nissan Roadsters.
If I won the lotto the Cadillac Roadster - only $100k.

    • Mine was a very sexy 1982 Mazda GLC Hatchback. It was a relatives car that was parked unused in the hot Miami sun so they offered it to me as I went off to college.

So for a free car, I picked it up in Miami and drove it up to Minnesota. It only broke down once in Savannah, Ga. Ah those were the days. :-)

I drove that car until it died. Towards the end, it would only start if you popped the clutch. So I had to park it on hills. My college sweetheart would have to push the car since she couldn't drive a stick to pop the clutch so that looked good... The guy in the car with the girl pushing it.

I knew a girl that would do that was a keeper. This October will be our 15 year wedding anniversary. And she doesn't have to push our cars to start them anymore.

  • My first car is a white Honda Civic ESI, I got it 1998 as a birthday gift. It's still here with me now and I just had it repainted for the 4th time. I just can't let go of it. Whenever I attempt to or even entertain the idea of selling it, separation anxiety kicks in.
  • A Maserati Gransport.
  • Mine actually was 2 cars that I had to combine to make a complete car.
They were 66 olds f85s one was a blue green color and the other was maroon. When I was finished putting the one together using parts of the other one I was driving a maroon 66 olds f85 with a bluish green front end , both fenders and hood..and I also had to take the power steering unit from the pieces car and put in the one I drove. What a pain but it was worth it , 2speed power glide transmission that I tried to tear up but couldn't.

Boy those were the good ole days;-)

Since then I've had a midnight blue 1.6 Ford Capri and another mint green 1.6 Ford Capri (spot an obsession emerging yet? ) but still haven't passed my test.
