RANT: Thanks Button ROCKS

I like the THANKS BUTTON.

I like it because:

I can go to threads that people think are worthwhile IMMEDIATELY without having to search and search and search for good content.

I know quickly if I am providing valuable content to the forum

I know if another forum member is a contributor or a "whiner" or just a random poster FAST

I can quickly judge the value of another poster's post based on his or her past number of THANKS

There's a LOT MORE but these are just some of the reasons I like the "Thanks" button.

You got any? Comon... gimme your best... I wanna KNOW why YOU want THANKS

LOL - I like this thread. Maybe they will put the Thanks button back now if we can get more responses to this thread than the 'Thanks Button Sucks' thread.

      THANKS!!!

I like the thanks button because it validates that you added something valuable to the forum and you helped someone by your post.

I also believe the thanks button is a measure of respect.

The more thanks that person, the more you are likely to respect him/her for adding helpful content to the forum
      THANKS!!!

I also like it because I can sometimes guage a Warriors generosity by the number of THANKS they have given.

I am with you winebuddy. The number of thanks can tell you something about the poster and or the post.

I love to see my thanks count rise. That means when that number rises, I have helped someone. It is kind of goofy, but I always check to see what post got the last thank you. Helping people is a good feeling, and the number of thanks is one way of telling. Many people don't even know about the thanks button, and many people just forget to use it. So when you get a thanks, that means a lot.

    I like it, so there.

Edit: When did the thanks button disappear? What was the purpose behind that?

I think the best way to approach this is to take a positive attitude and discuss WHY the THANKS BUTTON is a positive thing that ADDS to the forum.

      For example:

I like the THANKS BUTTON because it lets me know if what I wrote CONTRIBUTES in a positive way to the forum and if it helps people. It also let's me know that what I posted is not only topical but reverberates throughout the forum community.

Well in all fairness I was positively joking.

For example: When a person uses this that usually means they are being FACETIOUS and trying to MAKE LIGHT of a silly situation.

I'm not even sure why they took it away...just because someone posted that they didn't like it? Seems a bit reactive to me so maybe there is more to it.

I never had any issues with the Thanks button. I am sure it was abused by some but in general it seemed to be a simple way of thanking someone without having to write up a post.

I also think it encourages people to leave good quality posts and I think that may suffer a little as a result.

There's no "voting" here. This is not a democracy. This is a forum OWNED by someone and the owner makes the rules. The rules can be influenced at times by the opinions of the posters and members.

However, most of the time, decisions are made because of reasons that WE don't see or know about. The THANK YOU button could be one of those circumstances. Who knows?

      But we aren't voting...

I am just trying to help make the case that the THANKS button was a GOOD THING and not a bad thing. It CONTRIBUTED to the forum being a much more positive place with a positive atmosphere.

That's why I think it needs to come back and stay.

This is the "good guy" place on the internet for IMers.

You missunderstand me, I want a no thankyou button, in addition to a thankyou button. So when I see threads offering free products for review, I can hit the no thankyou button

My psychic powers tell me there are security and performance issues with the "Thanks" button's implementation which are not easy to fix.

Of course, sometimes my psychic powers fail me.

I'll get on it soon (still have your number). We are headed to the beach tomorrow for a vacation - may give you a buzz from there

The thanks button makes me feel good that someone found my post helpful.
It inspires me to try to make quality posts and provide helpful contributions.
Also when i get an answer to a question that may have been bothering me, i like to thank the providers of that answer.
The thanks count a warrior has under is belt is a measure of his/her valuable contributions in this forum. If it's gone the only measure will be the number of posts under his belt and anybody can get a 1000 post count in days!
If it's gone, we may no longer find people committed to helping others here.
    People love to feel appreciated.
PLEASE bring back the thanks button. THANKS.

    Jude.

First, I don't think they took away the thanks button because of one whiner. I think it has something to do with the problems the forum has been having. This isn't the first time it has disappeared recently.

And now . . . I like the thanks button because I enjoy letting people know I appreciate them. I click the thanks button for many reasons, a few of which include:

    - I agree with the post, but have nothing to add to it.
    - Someone has made me laugh. I like to laugh.
    - Someone has made me think, sometimes I thank them for that even if I don't agree.
    - Someone has taught me something, or given me a good idea.
    - Someone has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to be helpful.
    - Someone posts a useful comment in a thread I start.
    - Someone espouses a point from a moral or ethical position that I agree with.

I also like to be thanked. It's nice to know you've given something back that is appreciated.

THANK YOU, winebuddy, because I also appreciate positive threads.

      Dennis,

You make my points more thoughtfully and eloquently than I do. You're the BEST.

ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE, even someone with a post count of 1 can say something negative and hijack a thread or an idea. It is SOOOOO easy to tear down stuff.

Ahhh - but building things - that takes ingenuity, perseverance, and action. It also takes some positive reinforcement from time to time and to me, the THANKS BUTTON helps you along sometimes.

That's another reason I like it - positive reinforcement in a NEGATIVE world.

talk about "preparation meeting opportunity" and "bing in the right place at the right time"...

I actually think this was a forum technical issue and as much as I would like to take credit for the THANKS BUTTON coming back - I don't think I had anything to do with it.

But you know what they say.... "Perception is EVERYTHING" :-)

I'm glad the Thanks button's back, too.

It's a convenient way to show my appreciation for someone's post when someone else inspires me, makes me think, agrees with me, makes me laugh, gives me a great idea, or anything else.

I like the thanks because it's a quick convenient way to show agreement without burning bandwidth - or space - and it's a way to agree without saying something that will start a war sometimes, too. Sometimes nods are just more appropriate than a comment, ya know?
