This is truly astonishing, I'm able to ascertain, but I'm clueless as to why even after reading it a few times. What does it mean?

1% net result when matter/anti-matter collide.

The article mentions that it has been known for a while now that all matter has
corresponding antimatter, and they have a tendency to destroy each other - or
    cancel each other out.

If that was completely true, then the implication is that nothing would exist. Aside
from any theoretical arguments that nothing, indeed, really doesn't exist, we all
    know that's not true.

So their findings help to explain the known universe. It's the cumulative mass and
result from the billions of years of collisions that resulted from the net gain of 1%
matter... or, you and me and Kurt and Seasoned...

and even Paul Uhl. Amazing grace.

Assuming belief in the "Big Bang" theory, matter and anti-matter came into existence in equal amounts and should have annihilated each other, resulting in no Universe. The experiment showed that a small percentage of matter survives matter/anti-matter collisions. Enough that the Universe as we know it, more matter than anti-matter, exists.

    EDIT: Ken got here first...
