The smell of oil

The smell of oil is ridiculous along the MS Gulf Coast. Whenever the wind blows in from the South it is nauseating. I'm thinking about swimming out there with a tube of crazy glue and fixing the problem myself.

  • Just pray that no fires start. If the oil is that strong it could explode if fire is added to the mix. What a nightmare.
  • Oh my! You are actually smelling the oil. How on earth are they going to contain this. This is so sad.
  • i think they will not be able to do anything

    • That is really sad, I know it is nearly impossible to prepare for every single possible outcome, especially when it involves something like deep sea oil rigging...but I mean, couldn't they have had more than a single back-up plan? Instead of that failing...and now they all have to play einstein and try to invent a fix on the clock.....its just seems like a lot to sacrifice for the price of some oil.

Hopefully we can try to look on the bright side...hopefully this gets fixed quickly, and if/when it does - we'll be more technologically advanced in that particular field, we'll have cleaner oil reserves, and the chance that something like this couldn't possibly ever happen again, right?

  • How far do you have to swim? Well, it might takes a while to crazy glue those leaking pipes! You might get high from oil and glue haha well good luck! I hope they fix this problem soon.

    • You don't have to glue yourself to the slick - it sticks really well all by itself

Been smelling it on our beach daily though it gets better later in the day when the breeze picks up. Haven't smelled it at my house which is just over a block from the water so hasn't been too bad here.

Oil Leak Highlight of the Day:

BP says so far, so good on top fill - but will be 24-48 more hours before they know for sure how well it will work. At least what is coming out of the pipe today seems to be mud...not oil. That's a good sign but BP isn't claiming a "fix" yet as the process is only partially complete.

So the CG guy (allen) jumps on the tube locally this morning to announce along the lines of 'we did it - it worked'. Which meant BP head had to come back to the tube to say "not quite so fast - we don't know yet".

And in D.C. we have a long speech about how this has been "managed" constantly....has been top priority...'we were in charge all along'. A lot of what was said made good sense - but too much was just CYA and rewriting the past month's news and quotes.

Funny how when there is a good chance of success so many are ready to jump in front of the camera and claim the credit. If the leak blows again tomorrow...they will be hitting reverse quickly and pointing the finger elsewhere.

My fingers got tired so now I'm just crossing my toes that the top fill will succeed.
