Wow. RIP Art. I never realized he was that old. It's sad to lose our TV and Movie heritage. I had quite a few laughs courtesy of Art back in the day.

    RIP Art.

Really lots of fond childhood memories but the one that stands out was that his son either accidentally or on purpose killed himself on acid during or after the 1960s. That must have hurt.

Just read that he got the idea for "Kids Say the Darndest Things" after son Jack's first day at kindergarten.

Informed by Jack that he would never go back to school, his father asked why. Jack responded: "Because I can't read, I can't write and they won't let me talk."
And when he recruited kids for the segment, he asked local teachers to "Pick the kids you'd like to have out of the classroom for a few precious hours."

      RIP Art.

Ditto on the fond childhood memories. Actually it was his daughter who committed suicide in 1969, which was what caused him to start his anti-drug campaign.

His son, Jack, died of lymphoma in 2007.

No, I'm not a walking Linkletter encyclopedia - I googled.

I'm sad that time escapes us so quickly, but I'm not sad for Art. 97 is a great age. My Grandfather recently died at 97 as well. For the last few years his most used line was "I'm on borrowed time anyway, so give me the damn piece of cake!"
