The Deadliest Warrior

Anybody watch this show?

They take warriors from different cultures and times, test the weapons used, put them into a computer algo, then run the test fights 1000 times to declare a winner.

They'll have battles between a Spartan and a Ninja, or a pirate and a knight.

I never guess the winner and I'm not sure how accurate this really is, as I believe the terrain would have a lot to do with a pirate and a knight...I'd hate to be on a ship and fall into the water wearing armour.

Also, Spartans and Romans were trained to fight in units, whereas ninjas are individual fighters.

Most of the show is testing the weapons using various experts on group of weapons...It can get pretty graphic. After all the measurements are taken, they dramatize the last few minutes of the show based on their findings to determine the winner.

Here's a some matchups from different shows:

  • Haha. That's a pretty funny show. Totally ridiculous, but still pretty funny.

    • Too bad you didn't see the whole show and only the last 3 minutes where they dramatize the results. It's actually got a lot of history in each show...But then you're probably just upset because the Russian's kicked the IRA'a ass. That was funny.

  • The match ups are hilarious.

Remind me a a show (20-30 years ago ) that was named...

"Meeting Of The Minds" where for example...

...historical people would get together and talk.

I think it was 4 of them at a time.

It would get real funny at times as they argued with each other.

    • Pretty cool stuff. Quite interesting.
  • Hi Kurt,

My teenage son who trains in Krav Maga absolutely loves the shows but he's so bummed out that knight loses to pirate. Another great kind-of similar show you might enjoyed is Fight Science; my son recorded that and watches quite a few times.

  • Although interesting, my problem with that it is all hypothetical and we will never know.

One thing we so know is what is the deadliest animal as there were a large number of fights conducted in the US and Canada in the nineteenth century.

The answer was the grizzly bear hands down. In fact, when pitted dead against a lion, most lions were dead within 5 minutes. The bear's arms would crush the lion's skull before the lion has a chance to reach it. The grizzly is even more powerful than its bigger cousin the polar bear.

    • Hey Derek,

You're right, we'll never know for sure and quite often it's really about the "better man", not styles. But the show does more than that...

They introduce weapons from different cultures that I've never heard of. Like the Zande warriors from Africa...They have a strange throwing weapon that's shaped kind of like an anchor. And the way it's designed, it can actually go AROUND shields if it makes contact with them.

Or watching someone demonstrate how sharp a samurai's sword really is...

And I'm also familiar with the California pit fights. For those that aren't aware, in the 1800s in western US mining towns, fights were staged between animals that were put in a pit for the purpose of betting. It's how pit bulls got their name.

You are right, grizzlies dominated and they destroyed the lions. Promoters paid a lot of money to have lions shipped in to entertain the miners and reports were how disappointed they were in how easy they were beaten by the grizzlies.

Seems a lot has to do with bone density and grizzlies have very dense bones for turning over rocks and digging, while felines have very light bones. The big hump that grizzlies in between their shoulders is nothing but pure muscle.

When the grizzly swats a lion, it crushes the lion's bones like pretzels.

And grizzlies have been documented running off polar bears from a kill. A lot is just bad attitude.

As athletes, grizzlies amaze me. They can actually run as fast as a race horse. I saw one on the nature channel chase down an elk fawn. They have great stamina, can climb trees and are great swimmers.

They are also very smart. Again on the nature channel, they showed a grizzly sitting on a hill watching two male moose fight. Once the fight was over, the grizzly went down and killed a very tired male moose. They've also been known to actually backtrack in their own footsteps when being tracked.

More on the same theme...Male lions kick the crap out of tigers. Many think that because tigers are a little bigger and much better hunters, that they'll win.

But male lions are pack (pride) animals that fight their entire life. It seems this training makes a huge difference. There was a report of a circus lion tamer who had a male lion get away and then killed something like a dozen male tigers, one by one.

Sadly, they still fight lions and tigers in parts of Asia. They shave the lion's mane to make it a closer fight, but it isn't enough.

  • Pirates have swords and guns. So, on sea or on land, the knight loses.
  • The first video is really funny! I remembered when we went out and were only 3. And then we were so drunk and my friend decided to sneak in my other friend's house and surprised him. When we were in front of the house already, Jaime , my friend climb into the tree to reach the window of my other friend's room and fell down.

Well I'll go for ninjas! I love ninjas especially with their weapons. But I also like pirates because of zorro in "one piece" and anime series. Katanas are awesome!
  • Yeah, that is like mythbusters.

HECK, pirates would use everything on the ship, and act in groups. They would also be faster. Even WITHOUT guns, the knight may lose.

Likewise, ninjas have medium range weapons, stealth, and are faster still, so I think they would win against pirates.

But HEY, ever see beverly hills ninja? You NEVER know!

    Steve
