This guy looks like something out of HellRaiser movie or Freaks.

Poor dude.

If you think you are having a bad day and the world is ONLY out to get you, take a look at his recent picture and thank whatever for that bad day, because it could be worse.

Guys ENTIRE jaw bone removed, fillet out , de-boned, like a fillet of fish.

Just a flap of skin and muscle tissue and lips simply hangs there supported by some neck brace or something.

I wonder if they are going to or can build an artificial jaw?

I think cancer got him, and they did some removal the 1st time, strike one.

They must did not get all of it, because now his jaw is gone, strike two.

If it gets him again, there's nothing else left to remove except his head, wow.

A journalist, as he is, you would think he would have access to resources to all cancer cures/recoveries/foreign techniques, doctors , etc., that is not normally covered in media or is not put on the news wire because of ratings or other reasons, but the sources are still there.

Usually someone who has to have part or all their jaw removed is usually a snuff and chew person, sometimes a smoker.

I don't think this guy can eat unless its thru intravenous ingestion, I'm not sure he can swallow.

So next time you rant and rave as though fate has singled you out and you have a had a very bad day, take a gander at Roger Ebert, and thank whatever for that bad day....,

.....and feel spoiled and ashamed to be so genuinely myopic.

I was not aware, but I don't watch TV or follow much news. But,
yes, that's a tough one. I don't know if there are replacements for
    entire jawbones.

No matter what, it can always be worse...

I remember back in the 90's, about mid-90s, there was a story in
the news about a guy who developed a bizarre infection in his sinuses.
It was a simple mold infection much like bread mold. But it was spreading
and couldn't be stopped. I think the concern was that it would spread
    to his brain.

According to the story, they removed his entire face. No eyes, no
nothing. I cannot imagine having any desire to live like that. And apparently,
at least at the time the story was reported, his wife was still with him
    and taking care of him.

For better or worse... I can only admire someone like that.

He's also inspirational not letting it bring him down. He continues to work. He has a positive outlook on life (I saw an interview on TV with him) and he even worked with a company to develop a text to speech software program that works with your own recorded voice so it sound more like your own voice vs. the robotic one. Instead of feeling sorry for himself he's done all this and continues working.

it doesnt matter how much resources you have, how much money, when death comes for you, it will get you, no matter what...honestly, I give him 6mo-1yr.

some cancers you just cant cure, and it doesnt matter how much $$$ you have.
some come slowly, and some come fast, and regardless, some can not be
stopped, no matter if the cancer comes slow or fast.

Yes, he has a love for movies and life. I have a friend who was diagnosed with two fatal blood diseases about 4 years ago. He should be dead by now according to his doctors, but instead is breaking world records in power lifting!

I'm fascinated by the text to speech software they're developing with Roger Ebert.

They've extracted an entire vocabulary from his many years of recorded television audio and it's truly given him back his OWN voice!

    Cool tech!

Yup. I have seen him lately and it is sad. He does not look like the same person anymore. It is really a pity but he is staying strong and going through life with an amazing vigor. I hope to be like him one day.
