No permanent location. To me, one of the meanings of financial security is not being restricted to one place. For some, building a home, breeding and waiting to die is paradise. For others it's hell. There is so much to see and do on this planet and I want to see and do it.

They didn't. Once my brother and I grew up and moved out they sold the house and went on a year long RV trip. Then they lived in several different places in BC until my mother passed away. Since then my father (turned 80 last April) has lived all over. He has a weak ticker now and has settled down in Comox.

My father was a Chief Engineer in the Navy and was often gone. When he retired he said he'd never leave mom alone again. You can't travel the world on a Navy pension, but they did fine with Canada and the U.S.

Maybe I inherited my desire to see the world. If so, I'm glad.

  Do it, Lawrence. You won't regret it. I saw about 13 countries, I think,
  while I was in Germany stationed there in the military.
  
  I saw so many cool things, and when I left there to come home I was
  depressed for quite a while. I didn't want to come home. I was invited
  to go back to Germany, the following year after returning to the states,
  by a young lady I had met in Switzerland. Sometimes I wish I would have
  done it.

Here's one place I would live for part of the year. Been to this
place about half a dozen times. It's beautiful.

I've thought about getting a chateaux in France. Or somewhere in
the Black Forest region, near Frieburg Germany. Nice area.

This place is unbelievably beautiful, too. Near the Eiger Mountain in
Switzerland. There's a small town close to it. The sky is the bluest
sky I've ever seen in my life. The air is the cleanest I've ever breathed.

The train runs through mountains, and you can look out the windows
and see clouds.

Quite a few places in Europe I would have residences and live part time.
I've never been to England, Scotland, or Ireland. But I would like to, one

I've found the sky gets deeper and clearer blue as you head north.

So I'd suggest you take a trip to Norway. The sky is amazing.

I've been to Norway and all the Scandinavian countries, also up above
the Arctic circle a bit. Went to Narvik, Norway - way the hell up there,
and then all the way down through Oslo and other places.

Narvik is a small town. On my first Saturday night there, I was on the
main drag, the only drag, and apparently the 'thing' to do, at that time
at least, was to do the American Graffiti movie thing and cruise up and
down in their restored American cars from the 50s and 60s. Strangest
thing I ever saw only because it was totally unexpected. lol

So I just sat there for a few hours watching dozens of these old American
cars cruising up and down the main drag. I was partying, don't ask, and
just watching it all. It was great.

I'd go to Brazil. I visited the place 2 years ago and just loved it. The weather, the women, the dancing it was too much.
I don't even speak Portuguese but if I did I can't imagine anything else that would have been better if I did.

I'd stay living where I am now.
But I'd do a lot more traveling on the bike in the summer.
After a couple of rides to Fl. I've been itching to ride cross country.
6 months on the rode riding and in the winter planning the next summer's ride sounds like a good plan to me.

This time of year, right where I'm at. I LOVE spring time in the Rockies!

Everything is green, mountain flowers blooming...The wild life is out with little ones...Bears sniffing in my windows, streams full with spring snow melt. temps in the 70s.

Aks me again in a few months when it's starts snowing again and I have cabin fever. But for now...

This question had me thinking. There are many places I would love to live. But I guess instead of settling permanently in one place I would like to live in different places - by the seashore, on the mountains, New York City. Guess the idea is to LIVE and not just exist!

  Don't be too concerned with views, as they become stale after a while, no matter how good.
  
  To back this up, I have searched for some we photos of where I lived from 1971-1975. This is the kind of view we had when looking out the front of our house, except for a road that ran between the house and the cliffs.
  
  Nice isn't it, but it didn't make it the greatest place in the world although it certainly had good points and still does.
  
  My point is that many factors go into making a place great to live and you should check out things such as the people, the economy, the laws and all those things that influence our lives on a daily basis.

  I agree with Ron. Having grown up and lived in Switzerland, England and in Marin County for the last 20+ years I can tell you that the state of the economy and the people make a huge difference in all of this. I have been everywhere in Europe, Greece, Canada, Hawaii and all over the world, and there are lots of great places.
  
  Over the years I've come to learn that just because a place looks pretty doesn't make it the best place for me to be. Today I use Astro Cartography and Astro Locality to guide my moves. I didn't always and paid dearly for it. And now that I have a trusted astrologer on my advisory team life has become a breeze.
  
  My ideal place supports me financially, romantically and in every other way (planetary that is).

I'm not sure that I would want to live in one place all the time if I had a choice. No matter where I have lived I have never felt at home even when I was a child.

So if money was no object then I would have homes in Northumberland, The Cotswolds, Clare,Galway,Dublin, New England and Tuscany. I would quite like to stay in a lighthouse occasionally too.

Hi Guys

I think I'd like to have a number of homes, I love Majorca in Spain, nice friendly people, away from the "rat race", great beeches and a small enough island to get around in a day and has a warm, sunny climate for most of the year.

My second home would be Toronto, it's a fantastic city and I'm a hockey fan too, though I'm not to keen on the winter snow.

And occasionally I'd want to return home to the UK to remind myself of my nationality.

Monaco. One of the richest places on Earth. It costs close to 1M to gain citizenship (I think it is half that to apply), and the properties there are worth more than the citizenship! The scenery is so beautiful there!

Living is in your head. All beaches the world over are next to the sea but not always can you swim there. Personally I love the Gold Coast in OZ. India was great but too humid unless you are in the mountains. Canada I got badly bitten by mosquitos but I loved the shopping malls. Italy, Germany, France, Malta, Fiji, New Zealand all have good memories for me. Dr Martini says the world is is home as he constantly travels, speaking at about 400 Seminars a year. That is some schedule.
Me, I like to travel and get to know the people in each country I visit.

We lived out in the country on an 8 acre farmette for a year. The rental fee was atrocious but I would absolutely buy a piece of land like that. Putting around on an old Farmall M with a 6-foot mower on the back was so therapeutic. It gave me something to look forward to every week. Then the roof began leaking and the landlady refuses to fix it. So we left, bought a house in a small town, and we're buying another the next town north of here before the end of the year. This house we're in now will become our office and base of operations and the one we're getting will be the "home" per se. In a few years we'll look for land and probably move that "home" over to it or if we clear enough cash we'll just build new.

As far as where?

Right here in Hill County will be fine. We're happy here. We're close enough to both Dallas and Austin to be useful for business, and close enough to nowhere to not have all the hassles of city life like traffic, rude people, and noise. Then again, walking to the grocery today for a couple of drinks I saw the same awful road rage and people being rude that I see an hour north of here in Dallas. Maybe we need to move further south? I don't know. We move too much further south and we're in hurricane season. We move north and it's tornadoes and snow. We move east and it's flooding. West and it's a desert. Maybe this is the right place to be.

Funny!!! I moved to S. Oregon about four years ago to be near terminally ill member of wife's family and haven't been able to get out of here....YET!

Lived in N.E. Cal about 5000 ft altitude for many years before that where it SNOWED!!!!! Way too much rain in Rogue Valley! I've been able to adapt to the larger population base, but this rain is way too much for this poor old snow bunny!

Thinking about Boise Idaho region within a year---we'll see.

The western Washington town I'm in gets about 65 inches a year, so southern Oregon around the I-5 corridor is looking pretty good.

  Yea...I know where you are at---my middle son lives in Oak Harbor so we travel close (well almost) to you about three times per year.

  Dang, I missed this reply. When I was a kid we lived in Belden for awhile. It's on highway 70 between Oroville and Quincy. I rode a schoolbus to Quincy. My brother lived in Portola and Quincy for a long time as an adult. He's now back in Oroville for work.
  
  My best times growing up were in Belden. I fished and hiked constantly. It was a dead little community when I was there. I drove through there last year and see it has revived itself as a tourist trap.

In a quiet place without nosy, noisy neighbors, where the temperature is cool but never really cold, away from busy thoroughfares but preferably within a kilometer or two of a supermarket, a shopping mall, a catholic church and a hospital, with access to high speed internet and cable tv.

I would prefer a small house where everything is within easy reach. It would be so much easier to keep clean

And I want it to have a rose garden and an herbary.

I have two places I would like to live. One would be in the Japanese mountains surrounded by cherry blossoms, and the other would be in the rockies.

Seclusion, peace, tranquility and most of all gorgeous scenery. I have something similar at the moment, although its not in the mountains, but I live about 2km from our own private community beach with panaromic beach view from my deck. (My house is built on the second floor)

Yea...just went down 70 from Reno to Chico a week or so ago. To me the entire area looks weird without log trucks, crummies and pickups full of chain saws as the fallers go home for the day!

I remember something about you going to take your brand new jeep down there to get it scratched/gouged on some of the back roads?

Well, I only managed to get down there once to visit with my great aunt for a couple of days before she passed away. Thankfully I made it before she did. I did take the Jeep, but didn't have time to go play.

Years ago, she and her husband had a mining claim in the middle of nowhere between Feather Falls and Little Grass Valley. My brother managed to get back in there with a Jeep, a chainsaw, and a winch late last summer. My goal is to get down there this year and make the same trip with him.

I would have a home here, likely in Pennsylvania, somewhere around where I am right now, along with a home somewhere in India which is my soul-mate's country of origin.

I am from Atlanta, GA. I love it and it's where I love to visit. However, I went to Panama City, Republic of Panama about 4 years ago to visit. I came back to Atlanta and sold everything - I have been living there ever since! So I would say that's my paradise. However, I love to travel. So that is home base - along with my family's house in Atlanta.
