Launch of business software - How to do it?

Hi,

I work for a company in Denmark, where we will launch an application for the business market (mostly consultants, and the like) within 6-9 months. The target market is worldwide.
It's still confidential, so I can not say so much about what the application does, except the above.

I'm thinking about selling creating a partner site, where Value Adding Re-sellers (VARs) can place orders for their customers, by signing up and be accepted as re-sellers.
Our marketing budget is rather limited.

Do any of you guys have any experience/inspiration/ideas on how to market and launch this succesfully?

I'm thinking here about marketing ideas, how to sign up VARs (and as many of them as possible and motivate them to sell), licensing, etc.
Any good forums?

Thanks!

Regards,
Thomas

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm also thinking about offline tactics. The major thing is getting a lot of VARs to sign up.

My advice (and you know what that's worth...) would be to immediately create some type of free product or report that would be very useful to your target market. Something that has REAL value, not a thinly-veiled sales pitch for anything. Since you still have the better part of a year before your launch, this would allow you to develop great relationships (and a mailing list) with the folks that will become your partners and customers later.

    Best of luck. - Russ

    Thanks Russ,

Any ideas on how I should set this up? With a squeeze website?
Do you know if it's possible to outsource this kind of service?

    Thanks.
