What movie(s) gave you nightmares?

In another thread I mentioned the the original "War Of The Worlds" movie (from the 50's) is still the only movie to give me nightmares as a kid.

Just interested to see if anyone else had been given nightmares by a movie.

By nightmares, I mean, waking up in a cold sweat, and having to leave the lights on for the rest of the night type of stuff, either as a kid, or later in life.

    LOL.

I got a sense of inadequacy from watching his films, but that's a different matter.

Ahem, anyway, can we leave this topic on movies you can take your girlfriend to see.

    Believe it or not...

The Blob (the one with Steve McQueen)

I think I was about 5 when I saw it. I was WAY too young. But it gave me nightmares for weeks.

Come to think of it, no other movie has.

It is kind of funny to watch now. The effects, as compared to today's effects, are comical. But boy they had me going back then!

As a kid all the classics,Frankenstein,The Wolfman, Dracula, etc etc. Also anything Boris Karloff was in.
TV wise ( I know you didn't ask,but anyways....) some Twilight Zones And Outer Limits.
The Twilight Zone with Agnes Morehead playing a country woman who doesn't speak and a tiny saucer from outer space lands on her house was a classic.

Now, again you didn't ask, but the one I have seen as an adult that creeps me out to even think about it was a Japanese film called The Audition.

Communion with Christopher Walken. I was scared of those big eyed aliens (greys) before, but I still watched it and it made me think about them more lol. Still scared of them too (im 29).

And when I was really young, I used to be scared of the thriller video when Michael turned around with yellow eyes at the end.

The 1970s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It was the little fibres creeping out of the pods; it was very easy to imagine you could almost see them. In the night. In the dark.

And honestly, I think that was the only one. I don't recall having nightmares about any other movies, ever.

Night of the Living Day and Phantasm gave me the creeps when I first saw them (around age 11-12).

....Promise not to laugh? Oh, go ahead....it's okay. When I was a little girl, the Wizard of Oz scared me. It was a combination of the flying monkeys, the green witch, the munchkins, the wizard, talking trees, oh - heck, now that I think about it, the entire movie is creepy. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Also, believe it or not, The Blob, scared me as a little girl.

        What a wuss.

Finally, Jack Nicholson in the Shining.

I watched that on video when I was kid. It was in the afternoon and afterwards I went to the garden shed to get my bike out and before I opened the door imagined turning back to house and seeing my parents pointing at me and making that scream/shrieking noise. I absolutely freaked.

Recently, I watched let me in and had some very unsettling dreams that night.

I have always immersed myself in horror fiction. I love the stuff and have since I started watching things like Psycho and Twilight Zone at the age of 4. I never have a nightmare directly related to a movie - but at odd times I've had composite nightmares that run like a movie. For example in one I was in the mountains with a friend and this guy was after us - we killed him, later he was back (mix of Salem's Lot and freddies nightmares, maybe?) - we kept killing him more guesomely and finally I think (won't describe it, it was pretty insane) we killed him good enough and at the end of the dream we were just hiking over the top of a mountain and saw a small town in the valley and started to walk toward it and I knew in the dream we were safe. Another ended with me on the highway seeing a road sign for a town XX miles. I knew it was all over. I sometimes think of writing books of the stories my dreams run.

One was pretty funny - I was babysitting (yeah that's gonna happen) and I went in the room to make sure the kid was okay and there's this deamon - green with yellow eyes, the whole deamon shot, lol, standing right by the crib. I split. Didn't think twice about leaving that kid, I just headed out the front door. Knew the kid was toast and didn't want to stay and give it a second helping. Hahahahaha -- Momma don't ask Sal to watch your kids.

Now as far as books........Ghost Story (P. Straub) shook me so hard at one point that when I turned the light out I thought I saw someone standing at the end of my bed - pretty plainly, too. I dove for the light and it didn't go out for the rest of the night. But it never entered my dreams. Go figure.

I have to say that the series Twin Peaks really scared me. I watched it as a kid and, well I can't say that I had nightmares, but I used to fall asleep pulling the blanket on my head. 'Nuff said.
Another really frightening movie was The Exorcist, the one from 1973. Horrific but great at the same time!

When I was a kid, there were a few movies that, while never giving me
nightmares, either scared the crap out of me or just plain gave me the
creeps. I can't remember them all, but here's a short list.

House On Haunted Hill - The scene where the witch floats across the room

Giant Behemoth - Anytime he zapped somebody

Carrie - When the hand popped out of the grave

Hideous Sun Demon - Anytime I had to look at that ugly puss LOL

The Manster - When we see the eye on his shoulder

The Cape Canaveral Monsters - Just looking at those creepy buggers LOL

The Indestructible Man - With Lon Chaney Jr. That movie just creeped me
      out.

The 11th Hour - TV series. One episode where this girl saw people and
through her eyes they were just, well, all messed up. It was very creepy.

Not Of This Earth - That guy just creeped me out with those eyes.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark - The scene when they opened the ark. Now THAT
      almost gave me nightmares.

Outer Limits TV Series - Plenty of episodes that creeped me out as a kid
including "The Chameleon", "The Mutant", "Keeper Of The Purple Twilight",
"Controlled Experiment", "The Children Of Spider County", "The Premonition"
      and I am sure others.

That's just off the top of my head.

I saw a Twilight Zone re-run when I was a pre-schooler and it gave me nightmares for years. It was the one with William Shatner on the plane and he sees a monster out on the wing of the plane trying to cause it to crash.

Also saw The Exorcist on TV in my early twenties, all by myself in my first apartment. Scared me so bad, I couldn't sleep that night.

As a teen, I went to a drive-in with my boyfriend and another couple and saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Gave me nightmares for months.

The original Halloween came out when I was teenager, and that was pretty creepy.I was afraid to be in the house alone for weeks after that movie.

And just 10 years or so ago, I saw the original Night of the Living Dead. It actually didn't scare me but to this day, I still have occasional nightmares about that movie. So it must have scared me on an unconscious level.
