What movie(s) gave you nightmares?

Everything starring John Holmes.

LOL.

I got a sense of inadequacy from watching his films, but that's a different matter.

Ahem, anyway, can we leave this topic on movies you can take your girlfriend to see.

Believe it or not...

The Blob (the one with Steve McQueen)

I think I was about 5 when I saw it. I was WAY too young. But it gave me nightmares for weeks.

Come to think of it, no other movie has.

It is kind of funny to watch now. The effects, as compared to today's effects, are comical. But boy they had me going back then!

As a kid all the classics,Frankenstein,The Wolfman, Dracula, etc etc. Also anything Boris Karloff was in.
TV wise ( I know you didn't ask,but anyways....) some Twilight Zones And Outer Limits.
The Twilight Zone with Agnes Morehead playing a country woman who doesn't speak and a tiny saucer from outer space lands on her house was a classic.

Now, again you didn't ask, but the one I have seen as an adult that creeps me out to even think about it was a Japanese film called The Audition.

The rings and saw!! Many of the Asian horrors also give me a bad taste in my mouth.

The first Friday the 13th movie. Only because I was a young volunteer at a summer camp w/ a lake at the time the movie came out.

I saw the Exorcist when it first came out at the drive in as a teenager. I think I am still a little warped from that movie!

i never got a nightmare because watching a horror movie.. (but i love japanese horror movie, they are cool)

The 1970s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It was the little fibres creeping out of the pods; it was very easy to imagine you could almost see them. In the night. In the dark.

And honestly, I think that was the only one. I don't recall having nightmares about any other movies, ever.

I have always immersed myself in horror fiction. I love the stuff and have since I started watching things like Psycho and Twilight Zone at the age of 4. I never have a nightmare directly related to a movie - but at odd times I've had composite nightmares that run like a movie. For example in one I was in the mountains with a friend and this guy was after us - we killed him, later he was back (mix of Salem's Lot and freddies nightmares, maybe?) - we kept killing him more guesomely and finally I think (won't describe it, it was pretty insane) we killed him good enough and at the end of the dream we were just hiking over the top of a mountain and saw a small town in the valley and started to walk toward it and I knew in the dream we were safe. Another ended with me on the highway seeing a road sign for a town XX miles. I knew it was all over. I sometimes think of writing books of the stories my dreams run.

One was pretty funny - I was babysitting (yeah that's gonna happen) and I went in the room to make sure the kid was okay and there's this deamon - green with yellow eyes, the whole deamon shot, lol, standing right by the crib. I split. Didn't think twice about leaving that kid, I just headed out the front door. Knew the kid was toast and didn't want to stay and give it a second helping. Hahahahaha -- Momma don't ask Sal to watch your kids.

Now as far as books........Ghost Story (P. Straub) shook me so hard at one point that when I turned the light out I thought I saw someone standing at the end of my bed - pretty plainly, too. I dove for the light and it didn't go out for the rest of the night. But it never entered my dreams. Go figure.

I have to say that the series Twin Peaks really scared me. I watched it as a kid and, well I can't say that I had nightmares, but I used to fall asleep pulling the blanket on my head. 'Nuff said.
Another really frightening movie was The Exorcist, the one from 1973. Horrific but great at the same time!

For me, it's "The Ring". It's the king of Japanese horror movie. In the movie, a ghost crawl from a TV set and kill people.

What was that film were that lumberjack guy in the States was allegedly abducted by aliens and was missing for a couple of days? That scene where he's inside the spaceship with those aliens gives me nightmares to this day. Based on a true story. What was that film called again?..

The Shinning is another one.

Paranormal Activity, The Exorcism, Darkness Falls. I hate horror, I have an imagination that will run away with me. My H makes me watch them because he loves the genre.

Leprechaun... The first one.

That movie creeped the hell out of me when I was younger.

Any horror movie create nightmares.I am really furious when i see any horror movie and at night when dream come it really makes me scare, so i avoid to watch it.

The Old zombie movies..man i had so many dreams with zombies etc...One involved the mother in law. Poor zombies. 28 days later as well. That was scary how fast it spread...

Hey and that was a kiddies horrow..the opening 5 minute scen was as scary as hell. Prey my teeth do not fall out!!!

yeah that was one creepy movie those little demon things YUK!!

No flim has ever given me a nightmare or even scared me. "The Changeling" came close.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Several movies have scared me: The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead, Halloween...

but only one that I can remember ever caused a nightmare:

Dracula 2000

That movie creeped me out!

Signs and the village by M. Night Shyamalan. The first time I saw signs I had to sleep with water beside my bed and when I watched the village I was working at a very rural kids camp and staying in a cabin. The counselor and myself slept with the all the flashlights we could find on.

the only movie that gave me nightmares is the “The Knowing” starring Nicolas Cage.

I can't watch scary movies at all. They all give me nightmares. My husband tries to make me watch them though because he wants me to snuggle up to him.

Its not a horror movie, I had nightmare after watching Thriller Video of Jackson when I was a kid.

Jaws- after seeing this I wouldn't even swim in a quarry!

Probably when I was 12 and watched dog soldiers in my house on my own at night. Considering I could see woods outside from where I was watching the TV i don't think it was the best of ideas.

I was always scared of Dumbo's dream.

The Hills have eyes and Psycho gave me night mares.

Ummmm.... When I was about 8 my dad sat me down to watch this movie called "gremlins" because he didn't want to put me to bed. Its quite weird, I can watch it now and just laugh at it.

Here's the brilliant irony that is my life:

When I was a kid, my Dad and I would watch Amazing Stories, the Twilight Zone, and other kinds of creepy crawly shows...no problem.

The Muppet Show...gave me horrible nightmares.

And the funny thing? I went on to get a degree in puppetry!

I made the mistake of ransacking my dad's movie collection when I was 6 or 7. I came across "the birds" by Hitchcock. Gave me a fever for days.

The original "Exorcist". Seen it when I was just a kid. Still cannot watch it to this day.

The alien movie series with Segorney Weaver. Big bugs attacking your in the middle of your slumber is definitely a nightmare. The movie series is also definitely a great futuristic movie about human colonization which is becoming more realistic everyday.

nightmare on elm street....its so scary and it make me wont fall sleep.

I love the horror movies and have never had a problem with them. It's the snake movies that I have a problem with. It never fails, every time I watch one, I have a nightmare about it.

Interesting question. These 2 movies..."Night Of The Living Dead" and "The Exorcist" gave me nightmares when I first saw them in the 1970's. Guess that dates me a little huh?
