I don't know, I was kicked in the testicles once, and was out for blood. Somehow, I think women can appreciate how a debilitating device that prevents use of a part of the body might cause one to react. I just thought of something though, what happens if you go flaccid? It MIGHT just drop off!

Well, the teeth dig in, so when you go flaccid they'll dig in deeper causing your penis to try and retreat into your body even further which makes the teeth dig in even deeper...

Here's my big problem with this concept: this doesn't prevent rape. It interrupts rape. While this may satisfy the needs of a fair justice system for only the guilty to be punished, it most certainly does not satisfy the needs of a fair social system to reduce the number of victims. Even if the assailant is only raping her for a fraction of a second, the victim has still been raped.

It ALSO says "however, it doesn't break the skin, and there's no danger of fluid exposure.", hey, if it DID break the skin, it would open them up to potential lawsuits, and increase the chances of infection of both parties.

AND, if he can't walk, how do you think he might react to the nearest living cause.

And kurt brings up a good point, even if not meant. Suppose a woman is angry at THE guy, or males in general? Nobody can truthfully say this "may satisfy the needs of a fair justice system for only the guilty to be punished".

I could see this as being a deterrent. Especially if the would be rapist knows the woman is carrying. Maybe a t-shirt that says "I carry two sets of teeth" or "Venus Penis Trap".

Not sure how much of a deterrent it may be. Rapists may start carrying something with them to test for (and remove) such a device before raping a woman.

Hi Steve,

Here's my thought...

If you live in the type of area where you're so deathly afraid of rape that you need to insert one of these things (or the homemade device of razor blades and sponges, as mentioned in the article), then it's unlikely that you're just going to get swept up in the moment and forget that you have it in.

It would be like a soldier in Iraq forgetting that he was carrying a gun. It doesn't happen, because war is all around and the gun is something he relies on.

That's my thought anyway. I would imagine that's how I'd feel... and I can't imagine forgetting about it.

This is the sort of thing that would be most useful in places where, if you're a woman, it's highly likely that you're going to get raped. Like the article mentions, certain parts of Africa come to mind.

However, like Kay, I'm not thinking this is a good idea. Rape is about violence, not sex. And I'd think a stinging pain would throw a rapist into an even bigger rage.

I just read the whole article. Near the end, it says women were already using their own homemade devices, like razors wrapped in sponges (inserted into themselves). Wow.

I doubt this ever sees the states. It doesnt surprise me that this comes out of S. Africa. Rape over there is practically a way of life. Females of all ages regularly get raped or offer sex for access to water supplies/wells. For a while it was thought in s. africa that sex with a virgin cured aids. Lots of civil war rapes happening there.

While i understand the the idea, this doesnt really sound all that smart. Rape isnt about sex, its about power. A man that is already so pathetic that he needs to rape a woman to reinforce his self image is probably the kind of person that would kill if his 'manhood' was injured dramatically.

You can say 'good' or 'serves him right' if you like, and I'd agree. But that wont make a difference to the woman that gets her skull caved in or choked out in a fit of rage cause she sliced up the rapist's junk.

WOW Michael, for once you and I agree. And WHO, in their right minds could EVER think sex with a virgin would CURE anything. It might help to PREVENT aids if you only did that, but CURE? Oh well, in the US people have to say that birth control methods that work through chemical means do NOT prevent STDs or AIDs. DUH!!!!!

Yeah, S. Africa is fairly backwards and almost retarded in their views of AIDS, probably why they are practically secreting the virus at this point. For a while there was a S. African leader that was saying he had the cure for aids. He held this cure in some funky old cough syrup bottle and handed it out by the spoonfuls, swearing that one spoonful was all that was needed to cure the virus.
