    • Honestly I don't know what you're talking about.

If you're referring to marketers saying "Crushing it"
in their sales videos then you're obviously spending
way too much time watching peoples sales videos.

Also, it's their website and their video so they can
      say what they want.

      Get over it.
  • How about "Killing It"?

  • Cool story, bro.
  • Hope a mod doesn't crush this thread before moving it to OT.

    How about:
    smashing it
    squishing it
    biting it
    stomping it
    pummeling it
    pounding it

    Would those be ok?

    • I like squishing it! That'll surely get people to buy!

Guru A says: "Look over my shoulder and watch how I am squishing it with Adwords!"

    • How about 'spanking it'?

"Honey, I've just been visualizing what I really want in life and now I'm going to lock myself in the office to spank it."

Well, there's no room for misunderstanding there...
  • oh, stop ya bishin'!
  • Please add "web 2.0" to that "do not use" list.
  • I know a couple of guys who are trying to crush the market. I've heard of crush videos, those are really gross. Wasn't there a drink named Crush? I forget. Anyway, it's easy to get negative associations with words or phrases, at least in my experience. It's like when you get a song stuck in your head, it will go away in time.

  • "Everyone and his dog is using that term"

"It's an instant cash-pulling, creditcard whipping tool"

No seriously, these kind of terms and words can be found is so many books. Just this morning I flipped to a very old, physical, book. It's around 15 years old and has most of the words marketers use in it. Including the "crushing".

The only thing worse than people "crushing it" is when people use the word "EPIC". And even worse than that is "EPIC FAIL".
  • i'm not a player i just crush alot
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I won't use "crushing it", but not because somebody is tired of it and thinks they can make an edict from on high that bans its use.

    LOL

    Funny.

Anyway, the reason I won't use it is because it doesn't sound natural for me; it's not something I would normally say.

While some people may not like the term "cashing in", I do. In fact, when I try to come up with alternatives, they just don't sound right.

But, to tell people to stop using a phrase because you're sick of it just sounds like heavy-handed whinging to me.

(OOPS! Did I just mix American and British English?)

Our language is so diverse and endlessly interesting that there are always other ways to say things, such as "cashing in" and "crushing it", but so what? Use the words you want - whether they be overused, British, American, SMS, slang, or whatever.

Also, I don't recall seeing or hearing the phrase "crushing it" until I read this post. Guess I'm just lucky.

    All the best,
    Michael

    • Don't you have to "crush it" before you start "cashing in" on it?
  • Haha this is funny, but youll be crushing if you use these words
  • Sometimes one of those threads come along that's good for nothing but a few hahas and ends up being a massive (there's another one of those words) waste of web space.

  • The only thing worse than seeing 'steroids' is seeing 'steriods.'

I started a job in a place and soon started hearing something I've
never encountered anywhere else before. Someone was talking
and said, "That gave me the total ass."

I was new there, so I just made a mental note. lol. Then I heard
    other people using it.

    I had the ass.
    That gave me the ass.

To have the ass meant they were angry about something. I left that
place about 4 years ago and have never heard that expression since.
