I'll go out on a limb and guess when you saw this image you were surprised the "Tree of Life" has branched out past the cut-off point to include the 'idiot species'.

Frank, I FORGOT about that! There WERE a number of cartoons where that last part happened. But it is INCREDIBLE how stupid some can be. WHO could believe things happen that way? HECK, I saw a hawthorne episode today. I think it might have been the first episode.

1. A person tried to bring in a SEVERELY injured person, and was told(by the person in #3) that the unconcious SEVERLY INJURED person couldn't just come in, he had to go through triage, and basically WAIT!
2. That person was APPALLED to find that NO beds were available, and one was used by a DEAD person!
3. ANOTHER person said that the person died when he died, and said she would come back with medicine for the dead guy!
4. A woman and her husband were in the waiting room. She complained of rather minor pains, in fact staff figured she needed tylenol and was likely pregnant.
5. A guy came in with his penis in a bag saying that his dog told him to cut it off!
6. The guy in #5 was let in before #4, though the husband felt that shouldn't have happened.
7. Hawthorne TRIED to get a crash cart for the woman in #4, because she NEEDED it. It was damaged because it was locked up because people stole them before(Per the woman in #3).
8. BTW The woman in #4 DIED!
9. The woman(in #3) that caused all the deaths was given FULL control over the ER, though hawthorne was supposed to be given that control, because "She knows where all the bodies are buried".
10. Hawthorne said "OF COURSE she does! SHE buried them!"

OK, who is dumber? #3 for being an INCOMPETENT person that seems to want to KILL? #4 for belittling the problem, and being surprised at the outcome because of triage? #5 because he did what his dog asked, even to his detriment? The administrator in #9 for promoting #3?

But HEY, want more examples? I am SURPRISED that the first picture right now is of this PRECISE sub topic of stupidity! The Darwin Awards

BTW did you notice the first person thought the thinner branch would hold him? The second guy used it to stabilize him, and it pulled HIM down. LUCKILY, it broke soon enough, and the third guy was close enough to the trunk that he managed to stay.

BTW it is no secret that some males fall into groups, follow peer pressure, etc... and do stupid things. I guess darwin awards realizes that. They have a female symbol on all their female winners, like THIS one:

Some scientists say that the human species is splitting into two species. It would seem that the three guys in the trees are not representative of the higher of the two species. I can see though, that the lower one might peter out like the Neanderthals did.

It was done to be humorous - see the dog on the bottom right?
They were only a few feet off the ground. The one guy knew he was going down - the one in the middle got a surprise, but he didn't fall more that three feet.

This clip was shown on World's Dumbest. Yes, it was intentional and it seems that sitting on a limb and sawing yourself down is now a "new sport". The guy in the middle was suprised. If they showed the entire video, we'd see that none of the kids was hurt.

However, doing something like this intentionally is even more stupid and why do we have to choose between "Is Humanity Doomed, Or Are These Guys Just Exceptionally Dumb"?

Why can't it be "both"?

A few feet is STILL TOO DANGEROUS! MAYBE if it were a foot or less it would be OK, but with a few feet, debris on the ground, the branch, other branches, the saw, etc... OK, a few feet probably wouldn't kill them, but they COULD get broken bones, lacerations, possibly lose an eye, etc...

BTW are you talking about the poodle? That poodle is AWFULLY small! It is only about 1/2 the size of the trunk, which is approximately 12" which makes their initial height off the base of the picture to be approximately 6'! If that poodle were real close to the tree, and they were a foot off the ground, the dog would be approximately 6" long! So it would appear it is a bit off in the distance, and they are farther off the ground. Let's say they were 6' tall, which is CLOSE. That would mean they were AT LEAST about 12' above the ground. And that is probably about as low as I would expect such a large branch to be.

ALSO, there is a delay and apparent repeat of the second guy's arm. The only real LOGICAL explanation would be that he tried to grab onto the other tree, and failed a couple times. THAT implies that they were MORE than 12' off the ground!

You know, nobody actually saw what these guys landed into or on.

Think it's possible that they had something on the ground like a mattress
or something to cushion their fall?

Yes, it's obvious this was done as humor and to get people like us to talk
about it.

How dangerous this actually was, without knowing what they landed in,
is unknown.

I did see the whole clip. They fell into the bush that's below them, you can see the bush shaking. I'm guessing it was about an 8ft fall, the branch was higher than they were tall. Rough landing for the guy in the middle but the bush broke his fall a lot and no one was hurt.

Watch the bush....If you look really close you can see they never fall below the bottom of the picture frame. And that is a bush, not another tree or limb.

Now that I look again, MAYBE what happened was that there was a trampoline maybe a couple feet off the ground, because that arm DOES reappear several times. So it is like they are bouncing. STILL with the branches, saw, and unpredictable effects of the branch break, etc.... it wasn't very bright. Although unlikely, they could have been directed more towards the tree trunk, for example. Branches could cause anything from a scratch to an injured eye to broken bones with infections. And the saw is an obvious danger.

Don't remember if it was on World's Dumbest or A.F.V., but did you see the one where the kid ran and jumped off his house roof?
He had a mattress on the ground in front of a Blue Spruce.
He over shot the mattress and landed about half way up the Spruce.

OK, sorry, I was responding to #24 , and I guess I missed the other message. When you say "entire clip" these days that can mean ANYTHING! I guess they are lucky that bush was strong enough.

The middle guy fell because he used the top limb for support, and the first one grabbed it just before he fell. Of course, the top limb broke between the second and third guy, and pulled the second down.
