What the hell is E-Marketing?

I heard this interesting term today: e-marketing. It reminded me of back in the mid 90's when people had just discovered the internet.

My friend's sister is taking a class in this "e-marketing"...so she can...er...e-market to people on the, e. Or whatever you do with that.

It sounds like a lot of college professors teaching something that they have never done before or been successful in, but have read in books a lot. My friend and I who are in IM laughed our asses off at the term, yet his sister just stared blankly at us, innocently trusting the establishment she attends by saying cute little things like, "Well they wouldn't have a class taught by someone who isn't a good e-marketer..."

....PHAHHAHAHAHA!

Have any of you heard of this e-marketing?

Probably "electronic." Academic people can be funny, sometimes.

        Michael,
        Probably "electronic."
        Yep.

The term isn't new, nor is it especially unusual. It was common before the phrase "Internet marketing" was, in fact.

The idea that they wouldn't have someone teaching college courses on things they'd never done is much funnier than the name they chose.

Whatever the subject, our current education system seems only capable of reducing it to a series of "facts" that must be remembered to be regurgitated in an "exam". Grades are given for who has the best memory.

Electronic Marketing, I see nothing funny about that.

What is funny is that they are trying to teach it in a formal educational institute, maybe in 10 or so years they will start teaching today's best IM techniques.

In general, the letter "E" stants for electronics in internet lingo.

Not sure if its referring to email marketing or electronic marketing (all of IM).
