Streaming Movie Sites Busted: Govt' Takes Websites

I remember a while back there were some individuals with websites streaming movies and saying they could get away with it because they did not have the movies on their hosting. Looks like the gov't and movie industry think differently.

I must admit, I've watched a handful of movies on there myself. I got tired of paying 20 to 40 bucks just to get a movie ticket, some popcorn and some candy. It seemed like a rip off. I guess I'll just go to the matinee now or wait for the video.

How many of you have watched bootleg videos?

I learned the Dollar Tree has movie sized candy so I go there now and smuggle that in. Sorry, I refuse to pay 3.50 for a box of Whoppers.

I think it was almost an hour from the time I heard "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" had been leaked, and the time it started playing on my television.

That said, I still went to see it, took my wife, sent several friends to see it, watched it on pay-per-view twice, we bought the DVD, and when my wife refused to turn it over after we split up - I bought another one.

There are certain things that even I don't have the discipline to resist, but trust me, in those cases... the studio doesn't lose any money on my account.

I have mixed feelings about bootlegged first-run movies. Basically, the little guy has been taking it in the shorts from the movie industry for years, and I really think it's time they just heaved a big sigh and took EVERYTHING straight to DVD from day one.

The movie theatre is garbage; tickets are too expensive, the seats are in bad repair, the floors are still sticky, and I think half the people I know have better surround sound than most theatres.

Pay-per-view is good. I like PPV. I also like premium cable channels. I especially like DVDs. In fact, I like DVDs that I buy myself... almost as much as I like Netflix.

Between Netflix and my Zune pass, the movie and music industries make a lot less money from me. For $26 a month, I get all the movies and music I want... provided I'm willing to take what's in stock. But they've got pretty much everything in stock.

There are websites like piratebay and mininova for you to download movies, music, tv shows and programs for free. I watched some real action movie in theater to get the feel of it and a few on streamlining movie sites.

I'm a try it before I buy it kind of a guy. I'll download most movies and watch them first. If I like it, I'll buy it. If not, I'll just delete it. But it's not fair for the big companies to lure you in w/ big budget advertising. Then charge you a week's worth of pay for a bucket of popcorn, and a coke the size of an Olympic swimming pool. And only then to find out that the movie is pure crapolla.

What really gets me going is the Goobers are so damn expensive in
theaters. Rip me off for the ticket and butter popcorn, but Goobers
should be off-limits for price gouging.

I think that no matter what anyone thinks about the quality of movies or how much the theater charges for goobers, one thing is clear ... the studio that produced the movie owns it. They have the right to do whatever they want with it. They have the right to deny anyone else from selling it, illegally downloading it, or promoting the illegal downloading or copying of it.

Without the investment in scripts, actors' salaries, costumes, music composition, etc, etc, etc, there would be no movie to bootleg. If a studio can't earn sufficient revenues from movies due to bootlegging, they will stop making movies.

If you still can't visualize just how wrong bootlegging is, think of it from an internet marketer's point of view. You write original articles for a fee. Someone else finds a way to get your articles and sell them without compensating you and thus rendering all your work valueless. Would that be ok because you are charging your customers too much (in the thief's opinion)?

If I create something with my time and expense, I expect to benefit fully from any gain and be protected from anyone getting benefit from my creation without compensating me. The movie studios who are really just a collection of creative people deserve the same consideration.
