Prince: the internet's completely over - Telegraph

I guess this "Internet fad" is finally coming to an end.

Seriously, though, I guess that would tend to put a damper on gaining an audience among people under 25 years old, many of which probably don't even own a CD player.

Who else sees a grassroots movement on the horizon for hundreds of millions of people to put up a download of Prince's CD just on principle?

OK, I thought that guy was DEAD! And HOW can he file lawsuits against a dead industry!?!? ALSO, HE CHANGED HIS NAME! It isn't prince anymore, but that crazy symbol. About the only song of his I recall liking was "just another manic monday", and I don't think he ever sung it!

Which makes him either a marketing genius or a senile ol' coot that doesn't get it.

He changed his name back from the symbol 10 years ago.

In some ways, he's right. Without getting technical about what the "Internet" is, email is almost dead with kids today, they are texting instead. I doubt email will ever die, but it's use is declining. I also don't think most of the public thinks of cell phones, blueberries, kindles and Ipads as being "on the Net".

I think sometimes too many conclusions about the future are drawn from "what kids do today". Most kids are not working so the tools they use are pure communication/entertainment.

Just as many "anti-establishment" 'kids" of previous generations now wear suits and ties when they go to work - what you use can change when you join the reality of a world where YOU must earn money to support yourself.

Watching trends is good and anticipating change is smart - but methods used can change when chatting with friends transitions to doing business with customers.

Yep, and all those constants you mentioned were also constants a decade ago, when kids were emailing more.

Email use is declining, a lot of it due to competition that wasn't around 10 years ago. To not factor in new developments would be a mistake, and to think that these other options aren't and won't affect past technologies is short-sighted, IMO.

Kids wear suit and ties when they enter the business world because no one has presented another option...This is why I don't like analogies in discussions. They seem to prove something, when they really don't.

PS...By the end of the year, there's a good chance people will own more Ipads than Mac computers.

Which shows just how few Mac computers have been sold.

They have 7.4% of the market(Q1 2009)! That IS a healthy chunk, ESPECIALLY since they didn't cut prices, or go along. Toshiba did BOTH, and STILL has a lower market share.

In Q4 2008, there were approximately six million Mac users worldwide.

And there were approximately one BILLION Windows users.

Now, since there are in fact some people out there using desktop Linux, I think it's safe to say that even if every Mac user is also a Windows user... Mac usage was under 0.6% worldwide.

So when people talk about their percentage of the market, I can't help but wonder precisely what tortuous definition of "the market" is being used.

            That's weird...

I just checked on the internet for "Prince" and appearently he's not alive either.

Must be a case of cyber-seance-ventriloquism...

            Anybody in that niche?

I've found that interesting for years - what purpose does a tie serve? It doesn't hold your head on or anything - and yet it's accepted as "what to do".

Kay, it points to the only thing guys really care about.

Why do you think ties end in the shape they do?
