Are you guilty of over-posting?

I don't want to make any accusations, but there are certain members of the WF who seem to take every opportunity to chime in. These individuals have prominent ads for their WSOs in their sig box.

They're generally trying to be helpful, but when their perspective dominates the thread, I can't help but notice.

If you're guilty of this, maybe you can consider tapering it down a bit. It may even hurt your credibility a bit when you average 30 posts a day.

I don't see it as a problem, especially if they have good advice to offer. Maybe instead of certain individuals chiming down, maybe more people need to chime in...

Well, I think sometimes the quality of the advice suffers. Sure, any one of us could chime in to most threads with our best advice and maybe someone will benefit, even if it's somewhat vague or a little off-topic. But I think holding back can be a good thing too.

If you think you might be guilty of it, please feel free to chime in here, because this thread doesn't count

Since when did you become the forum police?

Yeah, I've got more posts here than anybody else.

        What of it?

Take a look at how many times I've been thanked.

How many or few times a person posts here is irrelevant. The only thing
that matters is if their posting, even if it's just ONE post a day, actually
contributes something valuable to the forum.

The insinuations of your post are insulting to say the least.

        I'll leave it at that.

I think it's fair to raise this question. After all, this is an industry where self-promotion is a major theme, so asking people to consider if their frequency of posts has selfish motives is valid. I respect your opinion.

I disagree that the number of times a person posts is irrelevant. If a person's posting comes to dominate an entire section or an entire forum, I think it's fair for someone to say, "You might consider backing down a bit." I'm not speaking about you in particular, and I can't help it if you're insulted.

I hesitated to start this thread for fear of getting banned, and then I realized it would be absurd to ban me for that (I hope).

One would presume they "chime in" when they want to contribute to the thread, threads are about discussion, thats how forums work.

I really don't see it as a problem at all. Lately I have been on this forum almost every day, and while some people don't actually provide much value, all in all the forum is running great and with the exception of the isolated spammer ortwo this forum is run really well by the mods.

I post when I feel the need to "chime in," or when I have something of value to add. If I don't see where I can contribute in some way, I typically don't post.

As for people "dominating certain sections", I think that can be a good thing. Trust me, you wouldn't want me to be contributing in the Programming Talk section. Let the people with the knowledge share what they want, when they want.

    OK...

While I don't have to justify my actions to you, I will explain.

If you happen to notice the number of posts I make in the threads I participate in, it can be somewhat higher than average. I like to discuss things, to have a conversation.

    BUT...

If you look at the total number of threads that I participate in, it's relatively low.

So, if someone were to see one of the threads where I'm contributing, they may think I spend all my time here. But it would only be an illusion.

They would have to look at every thread and KEEP TABS on every post I make.

    WAIT!

I just realized that you have so much time on your hands that you are able to read every post in every thread, and then check everybody's profile to see what their average post count is. And you're telling us to worry about OUR credibility?

Thank you Howdy Doody, I try to have a hearty laugh at least once a day and you helped me reach my quota.

I see the OP has gone, but I still want to add my 5 cents.

I'm new here, and ever grateful for thems-that-knows-stuff for posting the things they do. I learn loads of interesting and useful things, and yes, often from the same core posters that care enough to offer their advice and support.

As for the links in the sigs? It's just like TV - the power is in your hands grasshopper....

WOW! 30 posts per day is extreme. I probably post 10 to 20 per week in this forum. I try to spread my links out across several forums and I am going to be adding one new forum each week. I think 30 posts in one forum per day is extreme, but 30 posts twice per week is fine. 30 posts per day in this forum alone is 210 per week. Wow.
