Is there a way to know how much traffic an expired domain was getting??

I keep hearing about all these people who buy expired domains and then redirect the traffic to their site. How do they know which domains to buy?? These are domains that people type in thier tool bar without using a search engine.

    I do not believe there is a way to check a traffic for expired domains,however, you can check for google/yahoo backlinks ,alexa rank and other factors.
    It should give you an approximate idea how popular this domain is.
