Have made and spent many many times that in the last 40 years--but if I could have it one time......lump sum....tax free....my needs and wants have self reduced to level at this time that I could live out my life without many $$$ worries!

If I'm to take this seriously I'd say an answer to this is in the book How to be Rich or some such title by the billionaire or near billionaire Felix Dennis. He says in his book: 'I'm not happy. I know many rich men, none of them are happy'. He goes on to saythat he knows that is true, as in his mind, he'd written that part of the book 40 times.

Please take heed anyone going for vast wealth. Save yourself some bother.

I totally agree with you, I also know quite a lot of rich people who aren't happy with their lives, because all they try and do all their lives is too earn the money, and once they got spent all their time on protecting that wealth.

It is often better to earn less and having fun in what you are doing, this way you enjoy life and are "richer" than all the billionaire's that are out there fighting and looking for happiness.

Interesting topic about wealth and happiness. I don't know
about wealthy people, or people with a lot of money. I've known
several in my life, and sometimes it was difficult to tell if they
    were happy.

The father of my best friend made millions in insurance. He developed
his own company and then sold it for millions. The father died several
years ago. I think he was late 70s in age.

But one day I was visiting him because he was living alone in later years,
and I would just stop by and spend some time with him.

One day he kind of unloaded about how hard it was to build that business,
and how much he was terrified that it would go under, or something would
happen. The things he told me really kind of shocked me. I guess just
because he kept it all to himself and never let on about anything all those
years I knew him and saw him.

I got the distinct impression a large part of his life was lived in fear, and
that he was not happy. He just seemed like he almost hated that business
when he talked about it. It was an eye opener for me.

People who have billions don't lead normal lives. I think perhaps they're so
afraid of something happening that they don't dare do things like go out
alone to places like Dunkin Donuts and grab a cup of coffee. Forget sending
someone out for it. Going out for it is half the fun, at least it is to me.

If I was so rich that I had to constantly worry about someone kidnapping me
or whatever, that would piss me off. Seriously. lol

    Thanks.
I loved the song. (set it as my iPhone ringtone lol)
Great voice that Bruno Mars has.
I really enjoyed the positive spin on being wealthy and giving stuff away.

    cheers

I think there are a LOT of rich people who are very happy. I've known multi-millionaires who were absolutely blissful.

The ones who are happy seemed to have a lot of other things going on in their lives that made the money just the icing on the cake. Those who looked at the money like it was the cake itself end up disappointed and neurotic. Living only to make more money is an illness and you can expect someone who is ill to be ecstatic.
