Republican Hagel and 59% of voters: Palin not Prepared for Job.

Update: new poll says 59% of voters say Gov Palin is not prepared to be VP. I thought this was an amazingly high number. Up significantly from just a few weeks ago. Seems, the more Americans see Sarah Palin, the more they don't think she is ready.

All told, 59 percent of voters surveyed said Ms. Palin was not prepared for the job, up nine percentage points since the beginning of the month. Nearly a third of voters polled said the vice-presidential selection would be a major factor influencing their vote for president, and those voters broadly favor Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee.
Here's an interesting and important point from this article:

And in a possible indication that the choice of Ms. Palin has hurt Mr. McCain's image, voters said they had much more confidence in Mr. Obama to pick qualified people for his administration than they did in Mr. McCain.
Good point. After picking Palin for VP, don't you worry about who he may pick for other important cabinet positions?

Interesting article about Rep Senator Chuck Hagel. There are some honest Republicans afterall. I always liked Hagel though, not just because he says this stuff about Palin and Mccain.

The Political Scene: Odd Man Out: Reporting & Essays: The New Yorker

Hagel skipped the Republican Convention, choosing instead to go, with two aides, on a fact-finding trip to Latin America. He did hear McCain's speech, which, in its evocation of the need to bridge a disabling partisan divide, echoed the theme of his discussion with McCain in their meeting in June. But, Hagel said, he's been "very disappointed" by McCain's campaign. "He gave one unifying speech and then has spent fifty million dollars to destroy his opponent."
Hagel may be the only senior Republican elected official who has publicly criticized McCain's choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. "I don't believe she's qualified to be President of the United States," Hagel told me. "The first judgment a potential President makes is who their running mate is--and I don't think John made a very good selection." He scoffed at McCain's attempts to portray her as an experienced politician. "To try to make the excuse that she looks out her window and sees Russia--and that she's commander of the Alaska National Guard." He added, "There is no question that this candidate is arguably the thinnest-résumé candidate for Vice-President in the history of America."
The notion of "winning" in Iraq is a "failed way of thinking," Hagel said. "If we frame this as win or lose, we'll be there forever." He added that this logic is equally flawed with respect to Afghanistan. "I agree with Obama that we're going to have to put several more brigades in there," he told me. "But there is no military solution, so we have to be very careful that somehow we don't just ricochet out of Iraq into Afghanistan, with another hundred-and-fifty-thousand-troop buildup." According to Hagel, confronting the problems of Afghanistan requires an understanding of its internal politics, its narcotics trade, and its endemic corruption, as well as a regional diplomatic approach, involving Pakistan, India, and Iran.

McCain "thinks we just need more military," Hagel said. "I've talked to John about this many times. I've said, 'John, we're limited. We're doing tremendous damage to our Army and Marines, we can't sustain this.' "

Hagel has been a Democrat for a long time. Good riddance to him and Colin Powell.

    Tim,
I'm not going to get into a silly argument, but I follow Republican politics pretty closely, and Hagel has not been a friend to the R party for quite some time now, anymore than Lieberman has been to the Dems.

If you like him, fine (no surprise there).

It is only silly because Hagel has a conservative voting record practicly second to none and you say he is a Dem. THAT is silly. 95% voting for Bush! That is not a Democrat. LOL.

Many people seem to conveniently forget that Palin has some qualifications that Biden, McCain, and Obama all lack.

For nearly two years now, Sarah Palin has been the Governor of Alaska, and before that she was the Mayor of Wasilla for two terms (1996 to 2002). As such, she has executive branch experience. Her ability to assume a leadership role has been clearly demonstrated.

Wasilla had a population of 6,000 when she was mayor and she had to hire someone to help her. Alaska has less people than my hometown and within two years she was investigated and found guilty of abuse of power. She has been caught lying and can't answer simple questions. Yeh, she has "executive" experience, but it's not all that good.

Alaska is probably the most strategic State in the USA.
Oil, major Missile Shield base, Russia at the front door,
Canada at the back door, major strategic seaway, climate
change aiding oil exploitation but damaging wilderness and
lifestyle of native Alaskans and their archeology ... plus
loads of nations claiming rights to big chunks of the Arctic etc.

Are you content with Palin as a safe pair of hands as Governor
of Alaska .... let alone VP of the USA ?????

                No.

Plus, I think now that people in her home state have learned more about her, if McCain/Palin don't win, she will have problems in Alaska. I predict she'll end up having her own show on Faux news. If they don't win.

There you go again. Posting some dumb ass email that is pure BS. So gullible it's amazing.

      BTW, this statement is ridiculous:

He's a thirty-year veteran of Washington politics and knows how to abuse the system for his own profit.
Huh? You obviously don't know what you are talking about here either. Biden is widely known as one of the Senators with the lowest net worth. It's well below $1 milion. Hello.

Also, Palin being dumb is not a good thing if she wins. She will be a blank slate. The Bush people are already telling her what to say and think on foreign policy and national issues. Just like Bush really. If you liked Bush you would love a Palin presidency.

Did I ever say Biden HAS abused the system for his own profit? No, I said he knows how.
Well, so what? He's had an opportunity for 36 years to abuse the system and has been pretty damn clean. He's practically poor by Senators standards. So, I wouldn't be worried about abusing the system when it comes to Biden. Now, P-A-L-I-N is something else. She was already found GUILTY of abuse of power in less than 2 years as Governor.

Well, you should care. These guys have no problems taking my money and giving it out to other people, but they won't voluntarily give of their own personal money.

Its all irrelevant now as in the traditional American manner all
the remaining big hitters and those who have been hedging their

I understand your opinion but as I posted in the other reply, do you truly believe that everyone in US government is so DUMB to let a guy run for presidency when he has no legal right to? Think about it...

Sadly the dumbing down of America has been going on for years now.

She is only going to president if McCain Dies, Obama has almost no experience and he will be president on day one if he should win. At least Palin could grow into the job under McCain. Unlike Obama who will be thrust into the job with little to no experience!

And actually Palin has more executive experience the Obama, hell even Bidens recent remarks hinted at Obamas lack of experience!

NOBODY has expereience being president until they are elected and sworn in.

Palin has experience running a corrupt system, if that's what you mean.
      Troopergate.
Watching her continual lying actually almost made me want to go confront her about her lies since she is speaking in my area tomorrow night. But I won't

What matters are the voters. It appears the voters have taken a good, long, hard look at Palin and don't like what they see. 59%!

On the other hand, the voters have looked at Obama for almost two years and the more they see and hear him the more they like what they see and hear. Even with all the Faux smears. ;-)

Reread your original post - 59% of Democratic voters...

So that's why the race for the White House ihas tightened and some polls now show McCain leading?

Seems to me that people are starting to NOT like what they see. Obama's cone of secrecy has started to crack.

Maybe you should. It's not just Democrats. That's what makes this poll a story.

Some polls show McCain leading? I haven't seen one, unless it's the Faux news poll where the ditto heads call in to vote.

Not necessarily. But, they both do legit polls. The call in ones aren't legit though, whether it's on Fox or CNN.

A new Rasmussen Poll shows that more Americans believe John McCain is better on economic issues that Senator Obama.

Besides the Rasmussen poll several days ago, there other polls show extreme tightening to statistical ties.

                Better yet...
                • Yesterdays Zogby poll showed McCain leading by 2%
                • Todays Pew poll of likely voters shows McCain leading by 1%.
                I wonder what this means?

                A McCain presidency!

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claim is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject.

It is most commonly used to refer specifically to the ad hominem as abusive, sexist, racist, or argumentum ad personam, which consists of criticizing or attacking the person who proposed the argument (personal attack) in an attempt to discredit the argument. It is also used when an opponent is unable to find fault with an argument, yet for various reasons, the opponent disagrees with it.

What's really scary is people thinking she is qualified to be VP when she doesn't have a clue as to what the job is.

Biden said it about Obama and so did Hillary and others...

You missed the dems attacking each other during the primary season?
          Now that's flat out funny.
During the primaries the Republicans where doing the same thing.
In fact both parties do that during every primary.
