Advice Concerning Charity/Fundraiser

Hello,

May I please ask for your advice/feedback ?
My daughter and I are starting efforts to raise monies for the special items
needed for her daughter, Katlyn. She was born with several birth defects, has reached the age of 6, and as she grows older more equipment is needed to assist in her daily living, such as a lift (baby's gettin' heavy) or an adapter for the bathtub, etc. The main concern the family is facing now is obtaining a "wheel chair van".
That's the basic details of why I need the advice.
Firstly I want to make sure everything we do is well accounted for so there will be no questions about the use on any monies raised.
As part of the fund raising we are going to create a web presence.
My inclination is to set up a self hosted site, using WP (I got a little experience with that). Of course there's Blogger and Facebook and probably others that could be utilized (instead of a self hosted site or in addition too).
If we have any success with the web presence it would be an ongoing effort to meet future needs and perhaps (if we have any real success)
to be able to assist other families/children with similar needs.
We are planning locally for things such as raffles, poker runs by some biker friends, donations from local businesses, maybe even a concert (we know some band members of some well know local/regional groups). And (if allowed) doing "Causes" on Facebook (??).
We had been planning on using Katlyn's savings account for the funds depository (when she get's money for birthday/Christmas Mama usually puts those in to it), but thought this morning that it's probably better to open a separate account just for this.

So.....any advice, suggestions ?
Web presence, fund raising, accountability, ideas.......
all would be appreciated !!!

With thanks,
Steve
