Did you guys see the moron that hooked up his campaign lawn signs to some kind of electric source? The neighborhood kids were stealing his signs so he electrifies it!
He captured a 9 year old little boy getting shocked for touching his sign.

Good - maybe the little runt will have learned a lesson and think twice before trying to nick other people's property in future.

He (the guy who rigged the sign) is not an idiot or a moron - he could well be a hero... perhaps he has saved the kid from a future life of crime by shocking him onto a different path.

I remember the days that if someone was on your property doing something destructive, etc, they would get a butt loaded with rocksalt for it. The constitution guarantees us private property and if we have to sit by and allow people to vandalize our property with threat of prosecution if we discomfort a criminal, we have NO private property. It's time to restore our constitutional right to own and defend our property. Lately, our courts are making us have to justify protecting our own persons from criminals. I am not comfortable with any court that would try to suppress our innate self-defense mechanisms. What will they do to a people who have been so brainwashed and so controlled that they will no longer raise an arm to defend themselves or their belongings? Anything they want to.

    • In truth, BOTH parties are having their signs stolen/destroyed, so no one party can claim they're being solely attacked. This happens every election cycle, so it's nothing new.

Most states have it listed as misdemeanor petty theft or vandalizism depending, and while it doesn't happen often, people have been prosecuted for it.

Personally, I don't see the rationale to steal/destroy said signs. You don't like their sign, put up your own.

I already posted this in another thread, but the reality is if I put an Obama sign up in my yard I am 100% sure it would be stolen/vandalized,and possibly my house too.

I think people are very angry - about the war, about the economy, about the bailout - and the candidates (and their signs) are a target for the anger.

What is sad to me about this story is that the parents would discuss this in a way that their son feels it all right to trespass and steal.

Too bad they didn't spent that time teaching him about the rights of others or that others have a right to different opinions without being vandalized.

I don't blame the guy at all for wiring the sign - it's a low voltage (not electrocution - kid would be toast) but it's enough to get attention.

Several years ago there was a fad in this area of bashing mail boxes - maybe it's done elsewhere too. Twice my son had to replace his mailbox and wooden post because kids in a car would drive up and down streets hitting mailboxes and posts with baseball bats.

The third box installed was mounted securely on a STEEL post which was anchored in concrete. An attractive box made of light weight wood hid the steel post from view.

We were home the night that box was "attacked" and you could hear the metal bat hit the steel post loud and clear. They never came back again.
That had to hurt...but they got the message.

Oh at first I thought you were talking about dbarnum cause someone suggested to them they electrify their signs that someone was stealing. That person is not an idiot. If someone is trespassing on your property and stealing your signs, then good, electrify them. The "idiots" are the ones who bother to go onto someone elses yard and steal their signs, even if it's a kid. You have to learn sometime you can't trespass and steal. And even if signs are cheap or free, it's still stealing. I don't feel sorry for the kid one bit, he should find a hobby or concentrate more on his school work.

I remember someone saying that she gave her campaign sign a generous coating of Vaseline. I'm not sure whether it worked or not, but I suspect that it did.
