Antonio Fargas, Huggy Bear from Starskey and Hutch. He was on line behind me at Sams Club.
I recognized his voice at first and turned around and there he was!

I remember Starsky and Hutch - but I don't remember Huggy Bear. I just never really liked the show and didn't watch it. And I'm still waiting to hear about what happened after ER recognized huggy bear.

    Huggy Bear! That's cool!

Most famous person I ever met was Annabella Llwin. She's the lead singer of Bow Wow Wow. Met her after a show in 2006, it was awesome. She held my hands as we spoke, and was one of the friendliest people I've ever met.

One thing I like about living in the north east (New York State)...we "bump into" people all the time. Here's a few I have seen over the years...

    - 1984, Cheap Trick did a USO show where I was stationed. They partied with us after.

    - 1986, Mickey Gilley did a USO show - same thing. Hung out after.

    - Somewhere in the late 80's, spent a weekend at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC and while riding the elevator, Nick Nolte got on. My (then) girlfriend and I were kinda speechless though.

    - Mid 90's I was on lunch from my then job. At a shopping center I saw Danny Aiello coming out of a supermarket carrying a turkey, heading to his Cadillac

    - Mid 90's, having breakfast at a local diner and Lawrence Taylor (former linebacker for the NY Giants) came in. BIIIIG guy.

    - Where I live we have several "famous people" live nearby and we see from time to time: Armand Assante, Robert DiNero, Paul Teutul Sr., Christian Slater

    - Last year, coming home from San Diego, I was on a flight with Curtis Sliwa (founder of the Guardian Angels, and also has his own radio show here in NY).

    - Last May, I went to the Irridium Jazz CLub to watch a band called Vital Information. One of the members is Steve Smith, the former drummer from Journey during their heyday. During the show, I was sitting literally 5 feet from him while he drummed. I am a drummer, so this was a big deal to me because he is fabulous. In between sets I got to chat with him for about 15 minutes. Nice guy.

You know how many autographs I have?

    None.

At the end of the day, they are all just people and an autograph is just a signature...

I lived in Vegas for a couple of years. (Just off Trop, east of the freeway).
Once in a while you just bump into people. Elevators, Grocery Stores. Crap
Tables. I went down to the lake once. Kenny Rogers was on the next boat.
He looked like a (really old) beached whale.

Yeah, I remember Huggy. I'm amazed you recognized the voice.

I got drunk with Duane Allman in a strip club in Daytona Beach once.
When I was going out with this girl from Willow NY she had an apartment across the street from Bearsville Studio and we used to go to the Rosa Cafe where alot of the musicians hung out. Meet Hall and Oates, the Band, Todd Rungren (sp) and many others there.

Mike I liked Journey better when Ansley Dunbar was their drummer.
Actually I've just always been an Ansley Dunbar fan.
I got 40 years in on drums.

What would be cool to me would be to meet Willie Nelson and Little Feat.
I screwed up in my first post, it was Greg Allman not Duane I got drunk with in Daytona (my bad). I was to drunk at the time to know until my friends told me who I was hangin with at the bar.
I also meet Andy Rooney when I worked at the Albany Country Club.
I also meet a bunch of politicians, like Ronald Reagan and Mario Cuomo .

Still if I could meet Willie and Feat my life would be complete especially if I could jam with them.

No doubt Ansley is a legend. His work with Journey is also spectacular. The reason I mention Steve Smith and Journey is because that's the time period I was introduced to Journey. I didn't get Look Into The Future or Infinity (etc.) until the mid eighties...after getting to know Smiths work.

And my drumming only goes back 11 years. It was a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, but could never persue. When I hit 33, I rented a house with a full basement, borrowed a friends kit and set out to learn.

I now have my own kit, never played in a real band - or even outside my basement (except one party). But it DID get my 2 older sons interested in music. They both drum (better than me) and one plays bass and the other plays guitar.

And it's great when they bring them to my house and we can jam

Got any videos of you playing? Would love to see them...

No, no videos I sold my last kit in 96 .
It was an old Ludwig (from 1969) with double bass in the Citrus Mod color.

I first saw Journey at a free concert at S.P.A.C.
That was when they first formed.

That's great that you got your kids interested in playing.
Two of my girls tried, but they wanted to play not practice so it never happened.

    Nice!

I am assuming you are familiar with drummerworld.com? I spend a lot of time there.

Continuing with Journey, when I first decided to learn drums 11 years ago, I guy I used to work with gave me lessons. He is a drummer and spent some years in the bay area.

He did session work in a studio out there and told me of this kid who used to cut from his high school classes and spend HOURS in the studio, practicing. Right before signing on with Santana, of course.

    Small world we live in...

      Would that be Michael Shrieve?
I believe he was the youngest musician at Woodstock.
      I don't visit drummerworld much.
To be honest I have a hard time just listening to music since I sold my kit.
I have a set of sticks and a stool I beat on for now.
One day I want another kit, not playing now is like not breathing.
You can do it for awhile but it will kill you.

When I was 15 my instructor (Paul Beull) sent a tape to Gene Krupa and I was excepted in his studio. My parents wouldn't let me move to NYC at that age though. How life would of been different if I did.
I originally studied Big Band, Jazz, and a little Classic. Moved on to rock when I was around 16.
Got turned on to Clive Bunker and double bass in 69 and got the kit above.
Then the real fun began when I started learning the Rudiments all over with my feet.

        Well, here goes.

I met Soupy Sales at my local Rondo Music store many years ago. I have
no idea why he was there in the first place but it was some kind of
        appearance for something.

I went to eat at an Italian restaurant in Hillside NJ and saw Phil Rizzuto at
the table behind us. I then heard that it was a popular hangout for him.

I went to a Mets game back in the early 70s and saw Lindsey Nelson
        walking down the hallway.

I met the man who discovered Bon Jovi at a songwriting seminar. His name
        was Steve Zuckerman.

I met the man who discovered the songwriting team behind Tony Orlando
and Dawn and the Partridge Family. His name was Walter Gollander.

Those are my personal celeb sightings in my life.

Not very impressive to say the least. LOL.

Actually, the kid I was referring to that my friend used to see in that studio was Neal Schon.

Interestingly, he had offers from a few different musicians, including Eric Clapton, but Santana offered him a gig first, so he took it. He was 16, I believe.

Well was going to post this vid in reply to Ken's post but it works for yours as well.
Here's Carlos, Micheal, Gregg Rolie, and the rest.
Love the solo Mike does, mostly because he was the traditional method of holding the sticks.

By the way Michael Shrieve was 19 at the time.
Neal wasn't with Santana at that time I believe.
