Can a voice move you to tears?

Hey music fans!

America's Got Talent threw me for a loop the other night. I just remembered to track down the video.

I'm a rock and roll fan, first and foremost...

But for some reason, as this 10 year old sang, the tears just started to come out. It was the voice. WTH? There are a few songs that make my eyeballs sweat a bit, but that's usually because of the lyrics or music, this time was different.

What do you think?

Rock on!

Puccini often elicits that response. It's interesting to hear a child sing "O Mio Babbino Caro". It will be more interesting to hear her in 15 years.

What's more important is that another adult has been exposed, however briefly, to opera. Who knows? Maybe he will explore it further.

Wow, when her voice changes with puberty she'll probably give Barry White a run for his money.

The voice was amazing - but so was the poise shown by this child.

Interesting how many of the "youtube contestants" just weren't entertaining. Of course I'm an animal person and felt bad that no one thought to secure the accordian stand for Pup so he could do his thing.

Yeah, I toyed with mentioning this. If not for the little movements of her mouth, etc... you would have to SWEAR she is lip syncing. It is something though.

I'm glad I saw her on TV. This video does NOT do her justice!

    Wow!

(...and opera is like fingernails scraping the blackboard to me) so 'wow' is saying a lot - and yes a tear did come -

Children's voices (when they have the singing kind) are like crystal - clear purity.

I have heard this quality from little kids in Black church choirs and believe it or not Little Stevie Wonder (when he was a little child) had the most beautiful voice in this regard that I ever heard.

One of the few things I can't find on YouTube are singles by Little Stevie Wonder (the child). (as an adult he does absolutely nothing for me - just not my style).

      Pat,

Listen to this song. I bought the album this tune was on when it came out and the album is still one of my all time favorites.

Well, boys can't generally have that type of voice for long and, while men can really appreciate it with a female, they certainly don't want to have that type of voice. 8-)
That said, Jackie DOES have a nice voice. I think the tone of parts of her spoken voice is similar to her singing opera. I guess I could see it. Maybe she cried a lot as a baby or something to belt that out. People were shocked at charlotte church. And SHE was like 14 by the time many heard of her. I wonder what she is like now.

Charlotte Church still has a great voice. Love her duet with Josh Groban a while back.

I don't see anything wrong with her being onstage if she enjoys what she's doing.

The problem with winning the competition for a child is the "vegas act" aspect. I do think that child has a great future, though.

Jackie truly blesses those who hear her sing with such an incredible voice.

Kay: Is this the one you're talking about?

The first time I saw them sing together my eyes watered...the one note she hits about 3/4 through the song is so pure...gives me tingles from head-to-toe everytime I hear it & Josh Groban has such a beeee--ooooo-ti-ful voice too.

There are quite a few singers when they sing Amazing Grace can make my eyes tear up The bass singer in the group Il Divo gives me chills everytime I hear him sing too. (you can hear him singing very clearly after the bagpipes) I can't wait until I can hire them all for a private concert:p

Charlotte's better known now in the UK for her personal life, which is always in the tabloids. She's also done quite a lot of tv work such as presenting and judging. However, she is returning to music:

Yo, eyes got a little waterly when I heard that live. Not a huge opera fan, but a 10 year belting that out...darn son, thats some real talent.

Stinks to put a kid on stage like that, but she absolutely destroyed it. I'm rooting for her.

    Kenster,
She seemed to really LOVE it! She seemed to LOVE the attention.

I don't know about "america's got talent" but most that "try out" for american idol are a national disgrace. They act so badly that someone should sue them for obscenity, and "sing" so badly I would love to sue them for hurting my ears so. American idol shows some of them at the begining just for laughs. They don't get to actually be sent to the show, or compete. So I LOVE seeing a person like this win, or even get noteriety.

Gosh, dial-up sucks...I am not able to view this, but I did see another video on a friend's computer in town. The little girl's mother died from cancer just prior to this performance. So, yes, a voice can move me to tears.

Well, I tried to replay it. USUALLY replay plays back at top speed, because of the cache, so it MIGHT be due to the actual "video". If that is the case, this video isn't worth WATCHING, unless you like to see her expressions, etc...(Though I DID like that. USUALLY they catch the person is a bad position, etc... But Jackie looked nice in all the ones I noticed.) Like I said, it does NOT do her justice. get a DECENT video, and watch THAT! Of course, the SOUND is good. Luckily, sound doesn't require the resources as much.

BTW you can sometimes turn the sound down, and play these in the background and/or have dinner. When you come back, simply click replay, and it runs FAR faster. DON'T refresh oir anything, simply replay. If you CAN'T do that, move it to the first frame and use the play/pause button to replay it.

    lynnM,

Yeah, looking her up in wikipedia DID remind me of her 9/11 comment. She was in NO position to form such an opinion, since she was so young, it was so new, and dealt with another country, and shouldn't have made the comment.

OH WELL... I figured she was BETTER now.

The only video that ever made me cry was the video from an Egyptian reggae artist Matisyahu. As I keep on repeating the track and analyzing the message of the song, it really strikes me. The song's message was all about Peace, peace between us all. Try it guys, Im sure you gonna love it. Im never a music lover but this song really touched me.
