We are told that the number 13! is an unlucky number.

I personally haven't been affected.

I actually participated in a "tree top adventure" on the 13/08/2010 (I'm OK).

I noticed that the plane I was travelling on when returning from holiday, didn't have row 13.

Are you superstitious?

By being superstitious about something, you are basically giving some inamiate object/circumstance the power over what happens to you.

If you believe in Universal Law (Law of Attraction), then you get what you think about. In other words, you are the one who is making your superstition real and manifesting the circumstances that occur as a result of it.

When something that you're superstitious about occurs then you will tend to find things that provide you with "evidence" that the superstition does really exist.

With that said, I consider 13 to be a "lucky" number for me.

When I got divorced I had been married 13 years and the judge signed the papers on the 13th of the month, and many wonderful things have happened since

    That's an awesome answer!!

So it's all in the mind (Law of Attraction). So if you believe that something "Bad" or even Good will happen on the 13th or something relating to the number 13,... if it happens, your perspective of the number 13 will then be either a negative or as with you a positive

But when it comes to planes, an individual must have had a negative experience with the number 13 in order for them to feel uncomfortable on the plane. So, when it could have started with a slip outside a superstore on the 13th of ... would escalate to the uncomfortability on the plane.

    Thanks,
    Owen

Since I was born on a Friday the 13th, I can not believe the number 13 has anything to do with bad luck.

Friday the 13th originally obtained its unlucky reputation because it was on Friday, October 13th, 1307 that the Knights Templar were rounded up and exterminated by the church and governments. They had become too powerful and rich, so their enemies (kings, rulers, even the Pope) accused them of horrible crimes and practices. A secret edict was dispatched to all of Europe, to be opened on the morning of Friday, October 13th, 1307 and carried out.

To the best of my knowledge, that particular origin is an urban myth. It sounds good, though.

Several shows on the History channel broadcast that information as fact. If it is or not,I don't know because I'm not that old.

          LOL

I guess I'll have to call up the History Channel and correct them.

They could add a new disclaimer...

"While we thought the information presented in the following program was coorect, it turns out some guy in Wisconsin wasn't so sure. We apologize."

          ~M~

p.s. On a side note, I have seen several History Channel programs, especially on "light" topics like supernatural phenomena, that aren't real heavy on facts. After posting the above, I checked Wikipedia (not the best source) and it backed up my initial belief about the Knights Templar origin.

The number 13 has always been perceived as an unlucky number.. but I don't believe in that. Not just because my birth date is 13, it's because they don't have any basis to call it unlucky. Your luck or lack of luck should never be blamed on a number.

Thank you so much. I have been following your comments for a while now.

In the spirit of kindness, allow me to offer two bits of advice.

      1. The minimum character requirement for a post is 10 characters. You don't have to type as many ........ as you have been. That should save you some time.

      2. You look like you're well on the path to trying to get your minimal post count high to either post a sig file, links or send a PM. However, posts here in the Off-Topic don't count.

It all boils down to this.

All you need are 10 characters in your posts, and you should post in the main section of the forum.

To save even more time, you can copy the line below. It is pre-formatted to be exactly 10 characters, and should work as a response to just about any post. Just copy and paste it as needed.

      Good idea.

      Use it wisely.

      All the best,
      Michael
