    Why don't you ask Facebook?

(By the way, what is your source? Link please. It doesn't seem to matter this is an urban legend that goes around every month or so. If they did start charging, are you going to stop using it?)

I can't imagine they'd be that dumb. They are now worth over $33 billion and it's because they have so many users to advertise to. If they start charging them, their advertising base will evaporate.

That is true. Since I'm trying hard to be nice today, I won't say anymore.

          Let 'er rip.

Actually, I don't recognize your posts when you're nice. So
I have to look over at the avatar which is annoying. Please

I doubt this is true, facebook would not be crazy enough to do this.

I remember years ago the same thing would be said about Myspace and thousands of little 15 year old girls would cry into their pillows "oh noe"

Seems like just another urban myth to me

Netzero NOT only said they would always be free but they said THAT was why they were in business, the goal, and basically called those charging for internet SCAM ARTISTS!

NOW, they CLAIM they can give you 10 hours a month. NetZero - Free Dial Up Internet Service - High Speed ISP - Net Zero Internet Provider - Netzero.com

For ME, they lowered it to 4 hours a month, and then said I couldn't even PAY for it!

I have seen companies say they would always be there, and quickly go under, open source stuff become proprietary. etc...

I doubt if its true they would miss out on too much ad revenue.

If it does become true I hope they offer group discounts ... if you know what I mean.

  • NO - It's definately NOT true.

I've attended a few Facebook Webinars recently about marketing on Facebook Groups and Fan Pages and there has never been any mention of any charges either now or in the future.

I'm pretty sure it was just a group that was set up to attract attention (which it did in a big way) and was then used to market something, although I don't know what.

Come to think of it, it was a pretty clever move. When people sign up to a Group, the administrator of that Group can email that member. An excellent way to build a list, (as long as it's used professionally and not to spam).

There must have been thousands who signed up to it due to it's controversial nature.

Wish I had thought of it !!

Facebook isn't stupid, the sites worth the most money in the world are free to use.

    Google, twitter, myspace, linkedin etc

Why would they throw away so many users and advertising possibilities? It would most definitely shut them down

I don't believe Facebook will do that. That was a big mistake in history if they do that.

FB makes money through 'Credits' and ads - and they will stick to their revenue structure. Someone has to be stupid enough to make an online social networking platform like this charged!

This rumor goes around every six months or so. It has yet to come to fruition. I doubt it will.
I am confident the rumor will continue.
The latest FB rumor I heard was that FB tracks the geographic location of your computer/FB usage. Not possible. But one of the categories on the Account Settings "Notifications" tab (called "Places") made some wonder if this is what they were doing.

I don't know where others are getting their information, but this is absolutely true!

In related news, April is 5 months late this year. Strange times.
