At this point, if you live Philadelphia and I am not quite sure if it
is all of New Jersey, then if you run a blog, you run ads, and you
even make as much as a penny, then expect a lic fee bill in the mail.
This fee is $50/yr or lifetime fee of $300 - so if you earned a penny
from your blog, and you reported it via income taxes, or you received
a 1099 income tax form, then they got you!

This just tells you how low our government is, because if the gov't finds
a small pot, and they think there is money in it, then they will grab it.

It is not enough that the gov't receives trillions of revenue in other
taxes, then they mishandle and mis-spend our tax dollars, now
they want to go after bloggers with a huge lic fee, and even
if a blogger made a penny...that is so dirty...

What is worse is that our govt knows this is a really bad economy, so they
run out and just create some BS income stream for the state, what is
more worse, when this gets bigger, they hire more employees, then you
can expect even higher lic fees. Our govt knows the people are hurting, but
yet they are going to go out and help themselves. I am really surprised they
did not say they are going after every little website that makes a penny, oh
wait, this is just a test run, give it time, I can assure you if they start
seeing money on this blog income venture, they will next go after websites.

So not only where you honest in reporting your income and paying taxes on
that, now you will be forced to buy a business lic to operate online, how lame!

Just to let you know, Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania not New Jersey.

Most businesses offline require some sort of licensing or at least registration so why should online businesses be exempt from that? I think the fee is high in Philly but that's just local politics and stuff - everything is higher in Philly, just like in NYC.

I don't understand why people aren't expecting to pay some fees to be a real business.

Then it should have been a part of a tax code years ago, the states
are thinking up ways to earn more money, when this country is
not really ready for new taxes...This is what gets me..it does not
matter if you got paid a penny, the blogger will be paying a
very high price for a blog that normally would not cost that much....

I am not talking about a blog that rakes in the cash....
I am talking about blogs that do not earn enough to
even pay their hosting bill, now ending up getting a huge
tax bill even if they reported making a penny....

the state could earn much more on cig/alcohol tax increases more then
they could ever earn with no income blogs...because once this blog
pays the bill, if he does, then he is probably shutting down....
where cig's and alcohol never shut down...

Years ago, the technology didn't exist so naturally it couldn't be written into the tax code. I agree that it seems exorbitant but it is a lifetime fee, too. If you are running a for-profit business then it needs to be looked at as a cost of doing business in Philadelphia.

You must work for the IRS...

The govt should be working for us, not us for them...

I am surprised they do not charge a walk-out-the-door
fee everytime that you walk out the door.

and this is why we are run over, because no one stands up to fight...

When everyone agrees to pay high taxes, new taxes, so shall we pay...

There should be a lessor fee for those that run "for profit" but did not
make a profit...there is a big difference in running a for profit, if you
did not make any income to boot, now you have to pay the same as
some blogger that would very well afford to pay the fee.
