I have never seen any beggar that is rich and I don't even expect to see any. But I heard that there are rich beggars in some countries of the world.

Have you ever seen any rich beggar in your country? Do you think it is possible to get rich begging?

This one in China is now a rich and famous celebrity. He was spotted for his fashosion sense and has got a legion of fans in Asia. A movie is soon to be made on his life as a beggar.

OK DEREK, it AMAZES me what people call FASHION! I recently saw a blurb about "harlem fashions". OK, SOME of the stuff they showed on people walking in public seemed nice, like "the frog". The "creator" was asked why it was called a frog, and she said that the tie dye design was made to resemble the back of a poison dart frog! But neither the dress or pattern were really unique.

But you should have seen this woman, the "creator". She was UNKEMPT! Had one of those cheap looking things made to appear similar to a mans sport jacket, but it was TOO large, Pants that were baggy, and a hat that was tall like a stovepipe hat, the brim was larger on either side, and it was curved up front and back and bowed in the middle of either side. she looked like a BUM that just threw the stuff together!

as for the picture you posted?

HE is supposed to be handsome and fashionable? OK, I figured this out! Some editors in china are on SMACK!!!!! BTW one meaning of smack is HEROIN!

And YEAH, I have seen rich beggars! One story tells of a woman that begged, and her son sustained some sort of injury. I forget if it was a finger or an arm, but he lost a lot because his mother supposedly couldn't afford the care. When she died, they found that her Mattress was FILLED with money. She was filthy rich. supposedly, it is a true story. Of course, I have seen beggars that clearly had a lot of money. And I knew one, though not exactly rich, that said he could easily clear over $30,000/year.

Although not actually a beggar, I heard they are STILL looking for W.C. Fields money. He supposedly had it stashed all over the world. WHO KNEW!?!?!? And one of my favorite anecdotes is about a guy that LOOKED like he was a BEGGAR! He had over $50,000,000 in the bank, and never had to touch it.

That is a sarcastic and mocking portrayal if I've ever seen one. The most strange aspect of it is people's insincere fawning fixation on him, romanticizing him. It is a joke. He's clearly mentally ill (perhaps afflicted with the very rare multiple personality disorder?) and very likely unbathed and smelly.

        Not anymore

Seriously though, through friends and family I've heard of people in my area (Detroit, Mi.) who live off of government assistance, food stamps, frequent soup kitchens and the people who know them swear they have six figures in the bank.

Our local news channel had a story about an asian woman who lived in our capital city. Every day she would dress in raggedy clothes and go spend the day begging for change in the downtown area. Then they followed her home and her house was a lot nicer than ours! You could get a peek into her house when she opened the door and the furnishings were pretty and it looked very clean. They tried to ask her why she was begging but she pretended she couldn't speak English and closed the door.

I have no idea why she would do that but obviously it seemed like an easy income for her. lol Maybe she was making more money than being in the IM business. ha ha

GOOD example! THERE are beggars! They lie, steal, and cheat for their jobs and then LITERALLY beg, lie, cheat, and steal for more money, etc... HEY, they may have invaded an agency that was once supposed to make it legit, but now it only APPEARS so. So ultimately, it IS just BEGGING!

Technically, EVERY big bank! If they didn't BEG, there would be NO bonds, fewer stocks, and the Fed funds rate would be MEANINGLESS!!!!

And what of CAR COMPANIES!?!?!? At this point, I think FORD is the ONLY one that DIDN'T!!

I studied psychology a bit and one of my favorite lines of psychology was Abnormal Psychology which deals with disorders such as multi-personality, anti-social personality, schizophrenia, etc

The reason I say this is because many beggars suffer from many of these disorders, especially schizophrenia. I did a study on the disorder and found that many schizophrenic beggars had sizable or at least average wealth, they were just pushed to the streets for reasons including voices telling them to.

In fact, in the town the college was in there was one beggar who the abnormal psych professor knew who has a $1mil condo she went back to after begging for money.

Very interesting, but just thought I would bring up the point that not only are some beggars rich by being beggars, but also some are rich but beg due to disorders. Its not necessarily rational, but thats part of the disorder.

I think it was a "Susan Boyle" moment rather than a conscious attempt to make fun of the down and out or mentally ill. But the story does have a "happy ending". As a result of the publicity, he is now reunited with his family. His wife died a year ago in a traffic accident leaving him two sons. They could certainly use the money earned from his trademark and film rights.

However, it is obviously that some people are trying to cash in on him. He had been given a job as the "fashion show director" at a resort.

Xi Li Ge or Brother Sharp lands fashion job as departmental manager in Shunde - What's On Xiamen

It is quite sad watching this as it is clear that he is still very mentally ill. He has severe schizophrenia and the prognosis is usually pretty bad.

A buddy of mine from another forum had wanted to find this out, so he went on sabbatical from his job (he was gainfully employed at a poverty research non-profit) and apparently he was even better than most of the real beggars. He made $100 a day, so he says. Most of them were making 10-20 in change.

Rich beggar, I grew up with a couple in my home town that were rich beggars, they collected real junk and took it to a junk dealer for cash. The dressed like bums too. The both died and left large sums of cash to their children. True story!

That may not be pretty, but that's not begging. It would be hard work. I've done a variation of that -- buying and selling antiques. A little bit more fancy but basically the same thing. Begging itself is essentially acting, sales and a lot of story telling.
