I'm less than 10 birthdays old and I make 6 figures a year!

SERIOUSLY! I recently had a close relative wish me a happy birthday on 9/8/2010! That is NOT my birthday. SO, I got to thinking! I'll change my birthday to 2/29! So I didn't have a birthday this year.

OK, you got me, where do nylons come into play? I said CYLONS! YEAH, I KNOW most seem to be female. And they ARE better for the men, but I don't think you'll get that far. 8-O

Yeah, and cylons ARE a bit like mannequins, and can have nice figures, and I think there WERE 6 models on the gallactica when they were first revealed. When I last saw it, they were about to show the final five. I THINK the other one was the one running the cylon resurrection ship.

I wondered if that was a reference to some sci fi thing. I never watched
BG, and I haven't watched TV since about 03 or 04.

    Ken,

I am breaking my own rule here and referring to the abomination that SCIFI(NOW SYFY) made and called battlestar Gallactica, made in 2003 on. It could be nice if they even gave it a different title or something.

WHY do people do this? The series was apparently WRITTEN for dirk benedict, and HIS part was recast as a WOMAN! The first show says the cylons were created by reptilian creatures on another planet, destroyed their makers, and wanted to kiill all the humans. The latest says they were made by humans. In the first one, they find earth POPULATED. In the latest one the cylons/human hybrids populate earth.

HECK, the new one says that the cylons were made on caprica.

The first shows cylons were just mechanical, and NOT something you would say has a figure. On the latest one, most look human, and I think most are women.

      Steve,

I watched maybe 2 episodes of the original (which I called CattleCar Galaxative), and decided it was a waste. Come on... Lorne Green as the captain of a spaceship? And that twit that played Starbuck... Blecch.

I'm a huge fan of well-done schlock, but that stuff was just horrible.

The new one that SciFi did was, in my opinion, the best written and among the best cast and acted series in a long time. Part of that is the fact that it was a story with a clear plot and a pre-determined end. They didn't have to deal with the stuff that writers do when they're stuck for a new plot every week.

"Saving Grace" had some of the same advantages, albeit not the same quality of writing. I found it interesting that BSG ended with "Daybreak" and SG with "Im Gonna Need a Bigger Night Light."

Sadly, I must agree to a degree, but I HATE it when two movies, series, etc... have the SAME title, and vary so.

The concept of cylons effectively hidden as spys, with only one reall weakness that the humans don't have, that turn on their creator, and the whole time paradox, etc... CLEARLY someone DID put a lot of thought into it. I DID watch MOST of the franchise. Sadly, I missed some of it. I'm waiting for the new caprica. I even like the way the intro to the new BG is done. It tells the whole story symbolically. I even like the transition between zoes avatar and the cylon.

As for the bit about starbuck, just another problem with the same sort of thing, and something I heard. Then again, maybe I read it in "confessions of a kamikaze cowboy". I DID read the book, and guess who wrote it? YEP "the twit"! I DID say APPARENTLY! 8-)

HEY, this whole thread WAS a joke to poke fun at all the topics surrounding the "I'm only x and made y" posts. Of course, I don't like names being assigned like this AND, if I were born 2/29, I WOULD have less than 10 birthdays, etc...!

Dammit! My first attempt at a geek-troll in ages, and you have to go and mess it up.

          Sheesh. Some people's kids.

You are not the only one who hates the recycle/adjust thing with established franchises. It's pretty common. Personally, I only care if the story is well-told.

If you want to look at a continuity train wreck, look at the history of the Batman. It ranged from the ridiculous to the psychotic, but they never really got it right until "Batman Begins." And "The Dark Knight" was just brilliant. Some friends took me to see that on my birthday when it came out, and they all had nightmares, courtesy of Heath Ledger.

If you forget about the previous stuff and just get into the story, it's a lot more fun.

I think I'll have to find a way to see "The Dark Knight."

From something I've read, it could really be about the
War on Terror. (not to try to turn this pol'cal.)

A subversive script that must be presented in a different
            cloth.

If it was, they hid it well. I've never even heard that. All I got from it was a really good Batman story. Easily the best ever filmed.

Ledger was nothing short of brilliant.

I have heard some of that kind of speculation about Watchmen. Haven't watched that yet, so I couldn't give an opinion.

I only see THREE reasons to do this...

            1. They don't know any better, and DON'T CARE! HECK, the woman that played Starbuck on the new show NEVER saw, or thought about the old one. Or maybe the figure a piece is inconvenient, so they IGNORE it.

            2. They want to create revisionist history!

            3. They hope the established name will bring viewers in.

Think about it. Using the franchise often means SOME research, even if not enough, the cost for the franchise, etc... So why else would they do this?

Which may be part of why she was so damned good in the role.

There's an existing fan base, for one thing. And most of the time they can do the story better now, since we have an audience that's more accepting of the realities of human interaction.

Do you think they would have dared offer a performance like Ledger gave as the Joker in a Batman film in the 60's? Vonnegut opened that door, and not many people went all the way through it before the 90's.

Personal preference. No arguing with that, either way. I think it would be safe to say that she played the role the way it was intended to be played this time around. Whether you like the desired result is very much a matter of preference. It certainly wasn't designed to appeal to everyone.

          Ken
WOW Ken! You NEVER saw it? We are talking about a show that was shown in 1978,1980.

And WHAT is wrong with LORNE GREEN!?!? He played the SAME part on BSG and bonanza. In BOTH cases he was the father figure and kind of the brains of the outfit. My favorite is when effectively SATAN is found by BSG. He could do a LOT of fancy things, including telekinetic things. Adama's(the part played by lorne green) son and his friend opened a door and saw lorne doing the same thing. BTW Patrick Macnee played satan and the voice of the cylon leader.

But HEY, there WAS a show proposed as a western through space. They ended up selling the idea. They called it STAR TREK! BTW Lorne Green was FAR better, as far as I am concerned, than william shatner!

and dave pattersons picture of lorne green IS as commander adama.

Steve, nobody could totally *******ize a show anymore than they did
with Smallville if you want to go by "true" Superman history.

I won't get into all the things that they've totally shot to hell because
      it's just too painful.

      But here's a small helping.

      1. Lois meets Clark before he becomes Superman.
      2. Superman is originally known as the Blur...WTF?
      3. Clark meets Perry White before Perry White is even editor of the Planet.
      4. Jimmy Olson dies except it's not really Jimmy. It's probably his brother.
      5. Lex Luther dies and leaves all these Luther clones behind.
      6. Clark's mother becomes a congresswoman...WTF?
      7. Lois already knows Clark's true identity.
      8. Zod comes to earth LONG before he should have ever got there.
      9. Tess Mercer is editor of the Planet and Clark is already working there.

I'd go on but it's all just too painful.

Having said that, I actually DO like the show.

      But God only knows why.

That's right, Steve. I was in the military from 75-80. Now
that I think about it, I never watched TV once during that
    time period. No kidding.

I was too busy being in the military and having fun. lol

I was in Germany from 78-80, and I was too busy working,
going to school, and having extreme fun.

Now that I think about it more...

I've hardly watched any TV as an adult except for the news
here and there and shows like Discovery, History channel and
stuff like that. But still, I never watched much of those either.

I was too busy doing things.

Star Trek. I bet I only watched half a dozen episodes of that

BTW that relative called me VERY early in the morning, and the chirp that revealed I had a message woke me up. I deccided to disable her ability to even leave a message.

I FINALLY reached her, and she said she did that to try to get my attention. She thought I wouldn't try to reach her, and knew she couldn't reach me.
