We heard from the breeder yesterday and it is official that we can get one of their puppies. This is the little fella we are getting, he is 5 weeks old so we will get him in about 3 weeks.

I am so excited - can't wait to get him.

He is just so gorgeous!

CUTE!!! Congrats. I love bringing a new puppy home. Here is a video when we first brought our puppy home a couple years ago. YouTube killed the audio since I used a song without permission (oops).

Please do not 'release balloons' for celebrations. The balloons and trailing ribbons entangle birds and kill wildlife and livestock that think the balloons are food.

Oh Congratulations, Sheryl - how exciting (and what a LOT of work, LOL).

He's a gorgeous little uh...well, so to speak little..... guy. He's gonna be an absolute moose. I can't see his front paws but I can see how his legs thicken at the bottom. He'll be a great, intelligent companion -- and a good search and rescue guy if you train him for it. -- Well teach him to carry the keg at any rate.

Oh yes he will be big - here is a pic of his Dad, so he would probably be about that size.

Alan your puppy is so cute.

I have a video tribute to my last dog on YouTube and I used our favourite song on it - so far they haven't killed the sound, I hope they don't.

Here is one with his paws - or at least his one white paw He does have big paws

Oh heck, Sheryl - I thought that was a mastiff pup - what is he? I'm seeing from his size relative to the hand in the pic that he isn't as big as I had presumed. He looks like a Rhodesian Ridgeback and now that I remember, someone said something about that breed a week or so ago. Is that what he is?

Yes he's a Rhodesian Ridgeback. We had a Ridgeback before and just love the breed so we had to go with another one.

Sheryl - I had a ridgeback for about 3.5 months. It was a litter that was being donated to the Leader Dogs so for the first year they are moved every quarter year or so to keep them from getting attached to one family before their training and subsequent permanent adoption.

The dog was a wonderful and severely intelligent little girl and it was hard as heck to watch her go -- but she and her siblings scored mega high in their service dog training, coming in at the top of the class. It was the first litter of Ridgebacks to go through the school.

While I like the working class giants who are mountain suited and better protection from large wild animals, a Ridgeback is a fabulous choice for those who want a smaller dog and have less need of intense strength in a pet.

I just know you are going to cherish this little guy to no ends. He's a luck fated pup to have you for a mom.

Thanks Sal, they are great dogs and very intelligent. Our last one was extremely intelligent and so easy to train. One thing that everyone commented on was how we could have him out the front yard and he wouldn't step off our property, he knew his boundaries and wouldn't pass them. I don't know anyone else with a dog that does that and most people were really surprised when they saw it. He would chase a cat and as soon as it stepped off our property he would stop and not go any further. They are just brilliant dogs.

They are still quite big, we tossed up whether to go for a smaller breed, you know one that would fit on your lap instead of one that takes up the whole sofa, but we just love this breed so much that we had to get another one.

Val, no we haven't selected a name yet, we have a few that we like and we will wait now until he is here and we can meet him in the flesh before choosing one.

I think Griffin would suit nicely, we also like 'Floyd' which is his Dad's name but we've been calling the litter Floyds Pups for so long that Floyd is really growing on us as a name.

Sheryl, I move a lot - Munch was trained to "no go in the road" and "stay home outside". The first worked no matter where we were, and the second...it only takes a trip or two around the yard border with them for them to know where home is.

At one point in time I stayed with a pal in NY for awhile and that was something else because I had to teach a 10 year old dog "no eat the cat". It was really a shocker the first time I walked in and found them both curled up on my bed together snoozing. LMAO.

    Dogs are the silliest people.

      Ain't it the truth!

I teach "wait" and "leave it". But with Gracie I found I accidentally taught her "don't lick doodah's face".

She just loves him to death and once in a while I notice he's needing some "alone time". Didn't realize how many times I had said that while moving her away from him....but now I just have to say it. She gives him one last lick on the nose and backs off.

If I had to name that pup from the picture, I'd call him Duker. Don't ask me why cause I don't know.
