text editor that displays word count...?

OFF TOPIC

Hi all,
Noob here with a silly-ish question...

Does anyone know of a text editor that displays the word count in a nice easy-to-see spot like the menu bar? So you don't have to go fishing through the menus to find how many words you've done so far...

I use openoffice. Maybe there's a way to make it do this? Or another program altogether? (Just not anything from microsoft)

I've used Darkroom in the past - Dark Room | they.misled.us.

If you hit control-/ you'll see a word count.

Pretty much every one except Notepad.

For html, I like Editplus the best. It replaced long time favorite Textpad.

If you are using Open Office go to "file" in the top menu and then to "properties".
