Computer Video Issue - Any Ideas???

by IowaGal 10 replies
So I've got Windows Vista (and yes, I know it sucks and that it was a wrong decision and all of that) and I'm having a real problem with video.

Maybe someone else has run into this. Everytime I play a video - regardless of where it came from YouTube, Revver, Flash, or what browser I use IE, FF, Chrome, it stutters.

All videos start like an old 80's rap song - about 3 or 4 minutes into any video it eventually stops.

I've cleaned up the registry a few times, installed updates, uninstalled updates, changed the settings, nearly everything I can think of.

Anyone else have this issue and fix it?

i think you better bring that to the service you brought it from. so they could deal with it. there must be still a warranty.

      Hi there -
Thanks for the quick response but I purchased it from Best Buy and even I'm more computer literate than most of the people there :-) Plus, I never buy warranties on this kind of stuff...half the time I've already pulled it apart and added processors or memory which would void any warranty anyway.

Was hoping there was some PC geek roaming the forum who has fixed this video issue for a friend.

I really don't want to resort to reinstalling the OS.

      Thanks.

      Hi Kim -
It did - for a very long time. That's why I thought it might be one of the infamous Windows updates that occured.

But even when I rollback a few of those, it still doesn't work properly.

It might be a memory issue, if you have installed any other software that might be running in the background using your resources that the video player needs.

You know Kim, I think you hit on something there. I was being pretty narrow-minded only considering the updates that Windows did...and though I haven't installed anything recently (new hardware, software, etc.), I HAVE installed some updates to a few other programs.

Thanks for the light bulb moment - I'll try rolling back some of those updates.

I don't know if this helps or not, I've got special peeves with video, and made a post about it last night, 'anyone else tired of email video?
Here's how I solved the stuttering, jerking, failing and all the rest. If I let it play through once (it also downloads into your computer) and play it a second time, then it will run smoothly and without halting, the same is true with video lectures, I put them on play for a minute then hit the pause button, and they keep on downloading. I come back 5 minutes later and now it will play smoothly.
Did I ask, anyone else peeod about email videos that don't work, and take too long to get the point across?

      Thanks for that info.

I have noticed that if I let it go for just a bit, stop it and then go back and start it from the beginning that the stuttering is gone.

I'm just irritated that I've got to go through that whole process just to get it running smoothly. What a time waster!

Thanks for your input - I'll let the videos run through first and see what happens.

Is it all being played online? could be a buffer issue.

Thanks Harvey - I've gotten a couple of other ideas as well. I'll need to report back any findings as I'm sure I'm not the only one having the problems.
