Just wondering if anyone has a favorite author? Personally, I enjoy Hunter S Thompson and his life in general. I find myself reading and visualizing everything word for word. Another interesting thing about him was that he would type out the Great Gatsby to get the rhythm of Scott Fitzgerald

  • My favorite author is Anita Desai and her "Cry the Peacock" is my favorite.
  • My favorite writer is so obscure that I was just now able to buy a domain name of said author's name. I don't understand why this person is not famous. This is a total character. Frankly, because SERPS here, I'm not even going to say the writer's name. Not just yet.

    • I like reading Paulo Coelho. I read most of his works except few... would like to read them in near future. Apart from this, Shelly, Wordswoth, Vikram Seth, Saki and more.... it depends on the mood and the moment....the brain needs different flavors...
  • My Favorite is Jack Tackett -he writes some great stuff on Linux and programming in C++. Some killer articles too.

I hear he's working on an international guide to swearing too -should be a hoot.

He hasn't started his sci fi novel - still in the outline/synopsis stage, but I'm sure it'll be Hugo material for sure...

  • Bill Bryson. One of the best non-fiction writers around.

    All the best,
    Michael
  • R.L. Stine and Khushwant Singh
  • I don't know that I have a favorite depending on what is going on I jump from author to author, if I had to choose one I'd probably go with Nicholas Sparks
  • G.Orwell, W.Golding
  • William Shakespear
  • hmmm..it depends on what type of book i'm reading...i love Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, inspirational books of Norman Vincent Peale and Og Mandino, Mildred Benson for the Nancy Drew books I loved when I was young...believe it or not, I somehow have taken to Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series (because of my daughter...no chastising please!!!...lol), and yes, Nicholas Sparks!
  • Too many good ones out there to just pick one.
But if you insist - John Steinbeck.
  • I love horrors so Stephen King is my favorite author, and my favorite book is
IT.This was the first horror book to truly scare me!
  • For me Dan Brown
  • It changes all the time. I think Caroll Ladd is my favorite author right now. She is awesome!
  • I enjoy a good murder mystery. My long time fav has been Patricia Cornwell.
  • Two of my favorite authors are Karen Kingsbury and Ted Dekker.
    Karen Kingsbury writes inspirational romance.
    Ted Dekker writes supense/fantasy/thriller.
  • My favorite book was Shogun by James Clavell. The Japanese were depicted as insanely violent and strange which I thought may have been exagerated.

Then I read "Noble House" which was based on real characters in 1960's Hong Kong and I found it pretty offensive then. Hong Kongers were depicted as insatiable sexual maniacs who craved perverted and kinky sex. The amount and quality of dirty language supposedly translated from Chinese to English was just incredible. It is only many years later that I realize a lot of the stuff was correct although there was probably some exageration.

Kudos to him for doing a lot of research on local customs, history and culture before writing his books.
  • Not actually favorite, i simply like her writings....Dr. Rebecca Brown
  • Paulo Coelho all the way!!!
  • Stephen King and his ability to get to you
