Need new Laptop - Toshiba or Asus??

Hello fellow Warriors,

I've been researching laptops for weeks now and my research got narrowed down to Toshiba and Asus?

Any preferences out there?

    It depends which model you want. It’s quite difficult to answer your question since I don’t know which price class you are aiming at.

    If you are aiming at notebook for $ 500 -800, I would say take the computer with the best guarantee and service. Mostly notebooks in this price class are more or less the same.
    But if I could choose between those two I would go with Asus since they are quite big in the notebook market today, and since they are well known for their pc-parts, they should have lots of spare part if your notebook breaks.



    For myself I did a fast review on a HP notebook in the priceclass above.

      Thanks so much for your response! I had talked to 2 computer techs and the only laptop they recommend NOT buying these days is HP. Something about bad parts...

      Besides great customer service and a sturdy keyboard (I'm on it 12 hours a day), I need an i7 quad 4 processor, blue-ray recording etc.

    Went ahead and went with the Toshiba. It was my first laptop and it was like the Energizer Bunny, it just went on until I just ran out of space. Good stuff.

    If you need >2GB, FULL 64 bit opr 32bit support, >1Ghz state of the art SPEED, large screen, media backup, go with a laptop/desktop. OTHERWISE, ASUS EEE is GREAT! YEAH, the EEE is almost 2 Ghz, but most earlier CPUs are closer to a 1Ghz single core centrino.

    I recommend Toshiba. I've been using my laptop for about a year now and it doesn't have any problem so far.

    Depends on the model and price range. For low-cost laptops its around the same, just go for the design

    I've read a dependability study somewhere (forgot the link) which favored ASUS. It showed ASUS stood last while other brands broke down or had problems in less than 5 years.

    PS. I use a Compaq which had LCD problems after 2 years.

    Meanwhile, here's how to pronounce ASUS properly:

    Toshiba quality, DESPITE that shown in this thread, is NOT noticably better. Frankly, I would only avoid....

    1. Sony
    2. Dell
    3. Emachines
    4. unresearched unknown names.

    As I recall, ASUS is considered one of the BEST motherboard manufacturers!

    Not that they're the final say, but Consumer Reports backs Toshiba as the best rated laptop next to the Apple products.

      That video made me laugh because I would have mispronounced it too. Thank goodness I was chatting with the rep via online chat, I would have made a fool out of myself. :p

          I have a Macbook Pro but also have used plenty of HP stuff from desktops to laptops, no problems with HP and I've used them for pry 10 years at least. Only reason I got the MBP was I wanted a nice, light, aluminum (plastic gets old after awhile, aluminum feels to nice and solid) laptop that I could use when traveling or in general that has good battery life. Hard to beat the 13" MBP for battery life.

            I will tell you, I Intel employees, so you know what units I'm going to recommend. In addition to processor (Pentium is better than θ1) ASUS is a solid brand, but now really gain traction in the United States. Asus is a bit like Apple, they are still innovate.Battery life is the key for me, otherwise why would you buy a notebook. BB on the site you will see the Asus model are 3 hours and 50 minutes of battery life and weighs less than 6 pounds. Model are Tosh 2 hours and 10 minutes of battery life and more important. Asus will be faster, better battery life and light.Listen

              ??? spelling isn't the problem!

              I guess you are saying you work for intel, and they are biased? OK, a few years ago that might have made a difference. HERE It doesn't, unless talking about apple products, OTHER than mac related, etc.... What does θ1 mean? Asus models can weigh more than 6 pounds, and last a LOT longer than 4 hours, and be slow! HECK, MOST may only have heard about the EEE, and THEY tend to be light, have a slow processor, and run over 8 hours. Some run almost 16 hours! Toshibas can weigh less than 6 pounds, and certainly last longer than 3 hours, and can be FAST. So you can't simply say asus or toshiba is better. You have to compare COMPUTERS, NOT brand! BTW apple now uses intel processors in their mac products. The iphone, ipad, etc... use an apple designed processor for compatibility, with older iphone type products, and probably originally because intel had no appropriate product. From what I understand, it is BETTER than the atom. Of course, THEY don't run software, for intel, like windows.

              When I listed the 3 brands I did, that I WOULDN'T buy, it is because of the quality of common parts and the way the company handles support, etc... So it is different.
