Too bad. Those corporate idiots 20 years ago at GM really had their heads up their butts on this one. Today Pontiac paid the price.

This was announced a long time ago - but I guess it just went down?

I have a Pontiac Bonneville SSEI (super charged) (my second one)

I am hoping this will make it a classic someday.

It was the last year they made super chargers (2003)

2004 they switched Bonne's to NorthStar engines

I think 2005 was the last Bonneville maybe not.

But somewhere between then and now I got a letter from GM announcing the end of Pontiac (a few years ago)

Heads up their butts is right. What else is new?

    Oldsmobiles bit the dust too.

p.s Sal -T-Birds are Fords ( or did they merge?) OMG did Ford die too?

(still love TBirds) one of the first cars I ever drove in the 1960s (fiance's)

Yea Pat, today is the last day Pontiac officially exists. Tomorrow, all new Pontiacs still on dealers lots will be sold as used cars because the dealer will have taken title to them.

In 2005/06 I did a lot of traveling between the coasts. 34 cross country flights and 17 rental cars. 16 of them were GM cars and the funnest car I drove during that period was a 2006 Pontiac Gran Prix. That car knocked my socks off. What a ride! Had to rent a Toyota once on one of those trips. What a piece of junk compared to those GM cars.

It's too bad GM had such a bad reputation that folks who bought those Toyotas never even went into a GM dealership to test drive one of their cars.

I also worked at two different Pontiac dealers when I was younger.

      Too bad...

I am sad too - Pontiacs are what I drive. I guess my '04 Grand Prix GTP (supercharged) will have to last a really long time. Not that I mind, it has been my favorite car ever!

Yes KJ, it is sad as is the death of lots of our industries -

Here is a typical GM thing though.

The car has just over 10k miles in 7 years (i work at home lol)

The steering knocks when you are parking or doing small maneuvers.

I took it in the the GM dealer in my area.

'oh yeh - they know about that' (and?)

'The shaft can't be lubed like you know when you lube the rest of your car' (and?)

'It's no big deal - not a safety hazard' (but?)

'If you want to fix it, it will be around $350 - we will replace the shaft.'

(but if it is a known defect - why don't you fix it on your dime or even 50/50?')

    (pregnant silence)

Where IS the nearest econo-box dealership?

No they didn't merge as far as I know -- I just said one thing when what I meant was Firebird. Transams are gonna be missed, too. If I didn't drive 4WD now, I'd want another Transam.

Hmmm. Nah - I think I'll stick with Jeep. That thing doesn't look like the firebirds/transam I used to drive. Wouldn't mind a set of those tires, though.

Only at the end did GM sorta start getting it right but was too late at that point, i.e. started bringing over versions of the Holden models but the GTO ended up extremely borring looking and bland, the GXP was ok for what it was.. but still the more agressive and better versions were over seas. They should have started doing this years ago, also the Holdens had way better interiors and fit finish for years while Pontiac interiors were just blahh plastic everywhere.
