Well it's different. China's economy is a lot more regulated by the government. It's better in some respects and bad in other ways.

In fact, any kind of regulation on the free market by the government, eg. injection of funds, is really against democratic values. In the free market, if organisations and business go down, it's because they're not competitive enough.

But we're seeing that when shit hits the fan, even democratic governments start to regulate the free market, which is kinda ironic.

Well if you don't mind being controlled, hardly having any freedom, don't have a need for a lot of human rights, and don't mind and literally being arrested and jailed if you try to "google" something the gov. disapproves of, then their gov. is better.

      hey annoyedgirl,

China has changed a lot since the cultural revolution,
no one is controlled Chinese can have their own business,
travel, find a job, use the internet, go to school where they want,
buy cars, apartments, homes, play golf, go swimming, skiing, invest,
have credit cards, shop online, practice any religion. Their middle class is growing.

China has has digital TV for a year already.

You like to post videos. Here's a few for you:

        From the video producer:

This 5-minute video clip was shot in Shenyang, China, in Oct, 2008. The residents in this area had been listening to the government announcements recorded in the video for around a year, and I believe they are still listening to the noisy speakers now, and very likely they will have to listen to them in a long time, unless they give up what they cling to or the government gets impatient and demolish the area totally.

It is a snapshot of people's life in China. Ruled by a tyrannical government, People's right is unprotected. In China, People get used to many things which you can not imagine. Government can do anything to People, and no one give a damn.

Please let more people know a little truth about China. The thing a tyrannical government fears most is the TRUTH.

Yeah, what's really ironic is when the Government passes
legislation that leads to the near collapse of an industry so
they can take our tax dollars, print more money, or borrow
from another country to bail the industry out and claim a
stake in all of the companies so they can have more control
          over the *free* market...

That's irony that Shakespeare couldn't dream up!

Here... so I don't have to repeat myself.

just post the link, can't see the video

anyway, I lived in China for 4 years, I never ever heard
any gov. loudspeakers going on, probably staged propoganda.

I've been to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Yunnan,
Hainan, Xian, Suzhou, Guangzhou, and Luoyang.

If there was a wacko religious group in the US trying to take
over the gov. the US would get them, look at Waco.
Falun Gong is a religious front.

My parents-in-law were given 500,000 yuan for their apartment
in China because they built an elevated railroad near the building.

It is extremely easy to have a romantic image of China. In reality, their government is as self-serving and greedy as any. Just read up on the multi-millionaire / billionare "princelings". No where can this be better seen in Hong Kong that has served as a center for money laundereing of ill-gotten gains by Chinese officials, their children, and their associates. Corruption was one of the main reasons behind the 1989 student protests and it has got worse. The reason that the population is still happy is because there is enough to spread round as the economy grew rapidly as in the case of Suharto and Indonesia.

In China, you can be executed for economic crimes that would be considered as relatively minor in the West. Families of those executed were charged the price of the bullet used to kill their loved ones. There was also a trade in the organs of those who were executed. Not only that, they would resort to child kidnaping to further their agenda

Like most Chinese, I am proud of what China has achieved in recent years but it has still got very far to go in terms of governance and rule of law.

No one is controlled in china ???

    Fool.

Communists are assholes, they control the economy. Jobs & power are for their family & friends.
Most chinese dont live in large cities and are poor exploited and oppressed. Dont get sucked in by china propaganda.

I have nothing against chinese people but communism and dogamatic socialism yes.

And to say any form of regulation is against democratic values is shallow waffle.

"any form of regulation"? Read what I said man. If you believe in market failure theory or support some new keynesian economics stuff, that's fine. Believe what you want. But present your argument instead of slamming someone's comment without even reading properly.
